The mainte- nance, janitorial, and cafeteria staffs worked hard to insure that Osceola was kept in good repair, the halls were clean, and the grounds were presentable. Supervisor Ron Wolf made sure that all technical facilities ran smoothly. The maintenance staff consisted of two indoor and three outdoor workers. Inside workers repaired broken facilities and replaced worn equipment and lights. Outside people raked, wa- tered plants and grass, and pruned trees. At 3 P.M. the night crew ar- rived to finish cleaning the class- rooms, hallways, and restrooms. They were the plant operators who erased chalkboards and straightened desks. Fach night they finished their jobs by l lP.M. Each day cafeteria manager, Mrs. Lucy Colbath, and twenty- one workers fed over thirteen hundred students. Jobs were di- vided between the cafeteria, Surf- side, and the teacher's cafeteria. all cafeteria works. Jim Odom looks for the right bolt to fix a loose window. Lunch is always a busy time for Beverly Weiler coordinates the kitchen staff of bakers and cooks. Life at OHS would have been i extremely uncomfortable for stu- dents if our support staff had not done their tough and often unre- cognized jobs, as well as they did. The Write ldee Good communication skills are essential in every day life, and students learned that even the basics can be fun. The mechanics of Eng- lish were never greeted enthusiastically, but after students improved their abilities the change was evident in their writing. Lan- guage arts teachers emphasized the impor- tance of proper grammar and punctuation, but also encouraged students to be creative. Studying the literature works of others often sparked the imagination of students, and teachers thought of new ideas to keep the students involved. Foreign language students were exposed to different cultures while they learned an- other language. Observing customs from oth- er countries on the day of holidays gave stu- dents an idea of what their foreign counter- parts were doing, and added spice to life in the foreign language department Movies and stories in the language of study were also included to expand the students' horizons. In Media Productions, students learned all aspects of planning, producing, broadcast- ing, and promoting television and radio pro- grams. Classes worked together as teams to create video tapes, slide presentations, and school-wide broadcasts for events such as Homecoming week and Student Government elections, Students also came up with anti- drug abuse campaigns which were displayed in the cafeteria. K 5 Monica O'Brien laments over the misfortune of having been assigned the research paper. xi Media productions is 2 by Meagan O'Neil ani y 'T ,Wk-, A l r '- , is . 4 W , Discussing the possibilities for their production are Rick Zichichi, Tracy Deal, Ed Bokor, and Todd Carlyle. 186 h I
