Secretaries: Holding Down the Fort By Jennifer Bowman Typing, filing, and advising kept our secretaries an integral part of the staff. They did a lot for the stu- dents and school. Ms. Pippin was kept constantly busy this year typ- ing progress reports, Guidance Newsletters, letters for counselors and transcripts. She also set up confer- ences between teachers and parents, and scheduled visits from College Representatives. Mr. McLay,s secretary, Mrs. Huneke, was always on the go. Her main jobs were taking care of person- nel records and overseeing the clerical staff. She spent much of her time working as a liaison between principals, teachers, students, the community, county personnel and publications. Mrs. Huneke also han- dled the payroll distribution for OHS employees. Mrs. Gingras and Mrs. McGann ran the main office. Mrs. Gingras knew practically every face in school as a result of her handling the attendance. Mrs. McGann collated and typed the daily bulletin as well as taking time to talk with students who needed a friendly ear. Finally, Mrs. De Gregorio and Mrs. Fil- mon kept the records and huge loads of paperwork under control. Our secretaries were very important and without them OHS would be buried under mountains of pa- perwork. Updating files is a big part of Mrs. Huneke's job t t r rrr t r 1

The mainte- nance, janitorial, and cafeteria staffs worked hard to insure that Osceola was kept in good repair, the halls were clean, and the grounds were presentable. Supervisor Ron Wolf made sure that all technical facilities ran smoothly. The maintenance staff consisted of two indoor and three outdoor workers. Inside workers repaired broken facilities and replaced worn equipment and lights. Outside people raked, wa- tered plants and grass, and pruned trees. At 3 P.M. the night crew ar- rived to finish cleaning the class- rooms, hallways, and restrooms. They were the plant operators who erased chalkboards and straightened desks. Fach night they finished their jobs by l lP.M. Each day cafeteria manager, Mrs. Lucy Colbath, and twenty- one workers fed over thirteen hundred students. Jobs were di- vided between the cafeteria, Surf- side, and the teacher's cafeteria. all cafeteria works. Jim Odom looks for the right bolt to fix a loose window. Lunch is always a busy time for Beverly Weiler coordinates the kitchen staff of bakers and cooks. Life at OHS would have been i extremely uncomfortable for stu- dents if our support staff had not done their tough and often unre- cognized jobs, as well as they did. Keeping the cafeteria's floor clean is just one of Fernice Hearns' jobs. ,gt ,,,, Q., ..:f...g,,awwmg:-,:Q,t.-1:,zu 2 ,.1 we n.,.,:fQ:.:1:t:::5st5g-we-w re' : Amffiiifl ggzzlztifirtsfes-W--f15 ,qw 11:12zifsisisiiiwifzfzi4,1,wwf J?5iQ1a1':is2Zfl's'ii-WL Nfl?-Sffiaeiieizz fl?-if tiger- 221222522112 zifiszzzz iizizzatiisazsfgzzzz ZYKZZZLZE ligligigiiifzzggzijrgszsef. ima.-.ti-if i,m4W,... ggggfg...
