Making Headlines By Robbie Scharton Reporting the events of the school year was the whole pur- pose behind the Chief Edition. The staff members spent most of the year interviewing, investigat- ing, writing and revising. Under the direction of their new advisor, Ms. Christine Eggle- ston, the students worked to pub- lish seven issues of the paper. The contents of the paper included editorials, cartoons, student spot- lights, special features, and stu- dent surveys. Advertisements from local merchants were also included. At the beginning of second se- mester a new law was passed re- stricting material which can be published in high school newspa- pers, but the Chief Edition staff tried their best to provide stu- dents with interesting, informa- tive articles that would entertain them as well as make them more aware of what was happening during the course of the year. Senior Jolene Nixon said, Getting the materials ready to go to press can be a real hassle, but when the paper comes back we really feel good about our- selvesf, dt -t With an accurate filing stystem, Jolene Nixon has no problem locating her pictures 168!Chief Edition

Hold The Thought By Robbie Scharton Putting a yearbook together is not an easy task, and nobody knows that better than the Ever- glade staff. No sooner had work been completed on last year's book then planning began on this yearls. Students worked on new theme and design ideas and tried to form a rough picture of what the book would look like. The book was far from forgotten over the summer, as August found Se- nior staff members Karen Getz, Jackie LaGrow, Robbie Schar- ton, and editor Tessa Whitehead in North Carolina for the Delmar Yearbook Summer Workshop. There the students attended classes on all aspects of yearbook production and competed for prizes against other staffs, win- ning eight pages of spot color for the book. The real work began with the new school year. Frenzied staff members went after photos, information, and ad contracts to combat the cost of the book. There were new staff members to train, a new format for returning staff members to ad- just to, and a new advisor, Mrs. Laurie Sauble, to keep things running smoothly. By second semester, everyone had settled in and the proofs from the company assured them that the finished product would be something they could be proud of. The Everglade staif.
