Warriors -i I- Have the Spirit by Jennifer Bowman Spirit is an important part of all activi- ties. The Spirit Club was one of Osceola's smaller extracurricular clubs. It promoted an overall good feeling about school activi- ties. The goals of the Spirit club were to inter- est everyone in supporting school events and extracurricular activities. The mem- bers also promoted and helped out in other projects that other clubs had, and encour- aged students to do so. When any event or project came up, the Spirit club really strove to support it. With a Little Help From My Friends It began every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning starting at 7:45 until their departure at 10:45 back home. In the three short hours that they were there they had a lot to do: Visiting classrooms, eating freshly cooked snacks prepared by students or Mrs. Gavin, or taking field trips to McDonalds, Publix Bakery, etc. These chil- dren ranged in ages between two and five years old. Even rough and tough football players proved to be gentle and loving. Football player Randy English said he real- ly enjoyed the class and looked forward to being a daddy sometime in the distant fu- ture. The Wee Warriors adapted well to becoming a big part of the expanded and very spirited Warrior family. Lending an ear to listen and occasionally a shoulder to cry on, the Peer Facilitators worked to help students over the rough spots that life sometimes created. Laura Hester explained that the group worked with the guidance counselors and the Occu- pational Specialist Helen Pilni, who guided them and reviewed their cases. Hester, April Scanlon, Sheri Frogel, Kathy Voris and Denise Turner all enjoyed the opportu- nity to help others. Students came for help with classes or sometimes just to talk. The Peer Facilitators also worked with groups of students at Osceola Middle School on Tuesday afternoons helping them to pre- pare for high school. Both Scanlon and Hester felt that the program was successful in its goal to help fellow students. - 1 Peer Facilitators: QTop to bottomj April Scanlon, Laura Hester, Kathy Voris, Denise Turner and Sheri Frogel. ,fr sf Lisa Pourchot prepares Stephanie for her High School Prom early as she is an infant success at it. 160lPeer!Wee Wariors
