By Mike Baker At the onset of the Warriors' season, the Boys Soccer team looked exceptionally strong. The team had six start- ing seniors and acquired three new players, foreign ex- change students, and the season looked promising. The team was excited and were looking forward to what could possibly be the Warriors' best soccer season in eight years. The teams hopes quickly diminished as Coach Bob Goebelis team became plagued by poor grades from quite a few of the team's starters and injuries, including one to Germanexchange student Timm Durkop who was out for the season with torn ligaments in his knee. However, with lots of depth in each position, the team still had a chance to finish the season well .yny Coach Goebel said, We have the players and the skills. Weire just not working as a unit and unfortunately things just arenit clicking the way they should? Although their record does not indicate it, the skills wereithere andthe majority of the players beiieved that it was just a matter of time before the team clicked as a unit and they finished the season with a good attitude. Lots of team spirit and hard work led the Girls' Soccer team to their best season in eight years. Even though the team's record of three Wins did not seem like much, it was the most wins ever scored by a Girls' team in a single season. With only two starting seniors, Gina Gray and Tessa Whitehead, the team was held together by their strong leadership skills both on and off the field. The team was very young, and for the most part, according to Coach Whalen, it was a rebuilding year for the girls? The team displayed aggressive play and good sports- manship throughout the season. Each year the team has improved. It is a trend that they would like to continue in the future. L ' GIRLS SOCCER L OHS Opp L Boca Ciega W L Clearwater W L St. Pete Cath.
