It was a strange season. As the coach put it, ours was a year of transition. So many games decided in the last minute, and so many tough breaks at the end. Osceola gave a lot of people trouble, and when the so-called “experts” seeded the Bulldogs sixth in the conference tourney, we took third not bad considering the two teams ahead of us went on the hard-boards of Lincoln in March. The seniors played hard, and the likes of Johnson, Vcelik, Wieseman, and Zelasney will be missed. As will the other seniors who contributed so much throughout the season: Watts, Davis, Klaus. None of them gave up, and their fine attitude will carry over to the guys on the way up. The junior varsity came on very strong at the end of the year, and it would appear that the talent and enthusiasm of these younger players speaks to the bright future of Osceloa basketball. Back row: Coach Ibarolle and Coach Schropfer. Front row: P. Gustafson, S. Watts, C. Hennings, T. Johansen, and S. B. Christensen, D. Becker, C. Leimser, J. Gabel, G. Schmidt, Jones. Coached by Lori Ibarolle and Audrey Schropfer, the “lady bulldogs” showed a lot of ability this year and ended the season with a 3-9 record. A vote at the end of the season showed that Joan Hayes was the Nervy Server, Brenda Bryan the Spunky Spiker, Brenda Peterson the Better Setter, Nancy Lemp the Most Valuable Player, and LuAnne Watts Ms. 110%. The twelve member junior varsity team ended with a record of 4-5 which gives us high hopes for the 79-80 season. Voted outstanding junior varsity player was Brenda Peterson and most improved junior varsity player was given to Debbie Neu-jahr. The unexperienced freshman gave a good show with a 3-5 record. Paige Gustafson and Crystal Leimser were voted outstanding freshman and most improved freshman. 23
