As it turned out, it was a fitting final touch. Five players named all conference, one all state, four others honorable mention all state. Three months of sweat turned sweet success as the Bulldog machine built up steam. The word seemed to be “power” as the team buried the opposition, victory after victory. Speed, strength, desire: the “Orange Crush put it all together in ’78. Coach Chapman, it was later learned, would leave the following spring after achieving the principle objective—make the playoffs. Also gone would be Wieseman. Day, and Watts: Tonniges, Jones, and Johansen. The Bulldogs will remember them as the team that went “state”, the players mentioned above as the senior leaders of one of the finest football “powerhouses” in Osceola records. We thank them all for leaving us with a legacy of winning. 21 Seniors: T. Johansen, T. Day, L. Wieseman, S. Davis, S. Watts, D. Tonniges, M. Jones.
