Nordstrom The OHS basketball team suffered a disappointing season in 75-'76, as a combination of inexperience and lack of height hurt them. Included in the Bulldogs 7-14 season were numerous close games, 7 losses being by 5 points or less. Highlights of the season were a second place finish in the Holiday tourney and a fourth place finish in the Conference tourney. First team All-Conference honors went to senior Rob Ster-up while junior John Zelasney gained second team honors and senior Rich Hayes received honorable mention. In almost all dual meets the team forfeited at least three weight classes, and in one match they had to surrender five. Mike Smith was the only senior to come back out of the five returning lettermen, which meant that there would be a lot of inexperience on the mat. Despite all these pitfalls, the young team led by Coach Jon Habben, was able to post a respectable 4-7 dual season record. Ray Johnson, Dale Runquist and Rick Johnson went to the state tournaments. Rick was able to tie for fifth place. End of the season recognitions went to Rick Johnson, Most Valuable Wrestler and Honorary Team Captain; Ray Johnson, Most Improved Wrestler; and Greg Cliffords was given the All Hustle Award.
