Open your mouth, close your eyes, for you I have a big surprise. The smallest class in high school, the sophomores, made a significant place for themselves in high school life. A more experienced class again entered into school and extracurricular activities with zest and enthusiasm as they had done in their first year in OHS. The thirty-two member class contributed greatly to the athletic and music departments. Despite their size, the rest of the school certainly knew the class was around. The sophomores really lived up to their motto, We may be a small class, but we have a lot of class. Their original float received the third place prize in the senior division of the Homecoming parade. For the first year the sophomore class did not hold the annual pancake feed. Instead the class of 1976 began to raise money for their prom next year with other projects. May was the month for a bake sale and a car wash by the class. Life is sweet just because of the friends we have made, and the things which in common we share, We want to live on, not because our ourselves, but because of people who care. It's giving and doing for somebody else--on that all life's splendor depends. And the joy of this world, when we've summed it all up, is found in the making of friends. --Author Unknown Mike Smith Rob Sterup Sue Throckmorton Susan Tworek Gary Warren Mary Jo Wieseman Jim Winslow Do you have to sneeze, Mary Jo? Stanley Lamb Carrie Loken Jayne Nelson Bonnie Noble Steve Peterson Patti Roehrs Dale Runquist Gaylen Schmoker Cindy Schott Russell Sigler Peggy Tindall Susie Wyman You there, hiding in the corner, what’s your grade?” No, Sir. I'm a freshman, Sir. Ah hah, one of the lowest of the low! Yes, Sir, anything you say, Sir. On August 27, 1973, there entered into OHS the new freshmen class expecting a similar scene as pictured above to happen to them everyday when meeting with upperclassmen. But to the utter suprise of these poor creatures, these overlords of the halls were human. That was the impression, however, only until the bon fire which has got to be the most terrifying night in the life of a freshman. Somehow on this night perfectly normal people turn into the monsters the class expected from the beginning. Don't get the wrong impression. The freshmen aren't complaining because they can’t wait until next year to do the same thing. One must admit the class of 1977 had some pretty great accomplishments in their first year of high school. For example, the freshmen volleyball team finished their season with a 5-1 record which is superior for an inexperienced team. The boys of the class had a successful basketball season winning both of their games and finishing second in the freshmen-sophomore tournament. However, one must also agree that there was a lot of help from the sophomores in this endeavor. A flute trio of freshmen girls received a superior rating at district music contest. This really came as a surprise to the group after a previous poor performance in band. The class have had many memorable times in their first year of high school and hope to have many more.
