Band Receives Superior Ratings The O.H.S. Bulldog Marching Band had a successful marching season in the autumn of 1971, topping their records of recent years. The success was largely due to the increased enthusiasm and spirit felt by the bandsmen. A great deal of pride was generated both by the members of the band and their followers. On October 9, the Bulldog Band traveled to Grand Island for the annual Harvest of Harmony. Participation in the street marching competition in the morning prepared the bandsmen for the afternoon field competition. This year Sue Lieberman represented Osceola in the Harvest of Harmony Queen contest. Sue was the first representative to the contest ever submitted by Osceola and she represented the band well. The field marching routine, an intricate arrangement of steps and turns set to a medley of songs arranged by Mr. Cadwallader, brought Osceola a superior or 1 rating, much to the delight of the bandsmen. The Bulldog Band returned to Osceola prepared to work hard to capture a superior rating at the Pershing Marching Contest to be held on October 30 in Lincoln. After a few minor changes in the routine and relatively few early morning practices, the band took the routine to Pershing and received the only unqualified ”1 rating in class C competition. This means that Osceola received 1 ratings from each of the three judges. The marching season was climaxed by the first annual Band Banquet organized by Mr. Cadwallader , the Band Council, and the Band Parents, and held on December 2. Jack Snider, director of the University of Nebraska Marching Band, was the main speaker at the banquet. At this time marching medals and the new senior medals were awarded to the band members concluding a great marching season. MAJORETTES Kathy Thayer Linda Johnson Sally Mills Sue Eikenhorst 21
