For this year, top honors were received at two major events in this area. Harvest of Harmony, held annually in Grand Island, was the first of these events. Competing in the morning were 26 class C bands in regular street marching. Osceola was among this group. A first place trophy was received by the O.H.S. band for being tops in all class C. A beautiful first place trophy was also taken home for the special routine performed on the football field. The routine consisted of several required movements worked together with music and special effects. In November, the band entered the annual state marching contest in Lincoln. It was the third year of competition for the band, which was eager to prove this was the year for a trophy. The hO-member band performed its eight minute routine on the floor of the Pershing Auditoruim in Lincoln before three judges and a vast crowd. The results were announced. Osceola had finally done it-- a superior rating and a first place trophy. As the Drum Majorette commented in the Lincoln Journal, We hope we're going to shine tonight. Indeed, the O.H.S. band DID shine.
