She has been very active in music during her high school years and she also took part in the Junior Class Play. She was cheerleader during her Junior year and was chosen to be Gridiron attendant this year at Homecoming. She has plans of going on to school and after that who knows??????????? Janet Bernt is one of the artistically inclined people in the class. To see her drawing sketches in class was not an uncommon sight. She proved her talent by drawing for the Mike and Annual. She was a member of Chorus and Pep Club. Her most prized possession was her long hair. Her future plans are to be a beautician. JANET BERNT Ramona Anderson was one of the more quiet members of this class. She could usually be found giggling in Study Hall, but other than that she didn't have much to say. She was a member of the Pep Club and Girls’ Chorus. She hopes her future will include being a typist. This active girl has shown her ability in music by playing snare drum and being drum major for two years. She also was active in the choruses and small groups. J anell was a very energetic cheerleader her senior year. Her writing ability was shown in work as feature editor of the Mike and Annual. Her winning personality won her Gridiron attendant. J anell’s future plans include a certain diamond ring she is wearing on her left hand. RAMONA ANDERSON J ANELL BOWMAN DEAN BUHL This guy is Dean Buhl. It seemed he always had something to say in class until he was called on. If there were ever paper planes floating around or someone was making remarks that didn’t make much sense, it was usually Dean. He always drove his little car to school and was in it whenever he had the time. Dean is going to be a farmer. Julius Cerny was a guy who didn’t have much to say. He was usually a partner of Dean Buhl’s whenever he was doing something ornery. His trademark was his cowboy hat. Julius plans to farm when he’s out of school. DONNA COLE We’re introducing Donna Cole, a well behaved girl who is more on the quiet side. Her acting ability was shown in the Junior Class Play. She has been a faithful member of the Pep Club, and belonged to Girls Chorus. Her ability to get along with others won her many friends. Marriage seems to be in her future. Doris Harbour joined the class during the Junior year. She is a member of the Pep Club and Chorus. She seemed to be a good member of F.H.A. in her spare time. She plans to be married after she graduates. Tommy Hastings was one of the smallest ones in our class. He always had a wise-crack or remark to make about something. Tommy went out for football this fall and was one of the Gridiron attendants. He is studying to be an engineer. Thomas Husak was the president of this class for three years. His outstanding talent was his ability to play the bass horn. He and his horn attended the National F.F.A. convention in Kansas City, Missouri, and he played in the band there. Also, he was Osceola’s representative at Boys’ State. Tom was the Football Captain last fall and he was also active in other sports. College seems to be his next stop and we’re sure he will make good there. DORIS HARBOUR TOMMY HASTINGS TOM HUSAK Richard Iwan was especially known for his voice. His classmates never got tired of one tone of voice, because like the Nebraska weather, we just waited for a minute and it changed. He is a very likeable guy, and even though he is ornery he has a lot of friends. He joined the football team in his fourth year. Unless he changes his mind, he will soon be in the Armed Service after he graduates. Jerry Johansen was always seen batting around in his Ford. He was out of school for quite a while because of an accident that affected, his eyes. He returned at the beginning of the second semester to liven our class up again. His future includes farming. GERALD JOHANSEN WAYNE JOHNSTON Wayne Johnston was a Gridiron attendant this year. He was one of die more quiet members of the class who didn’t seem to get into too much trouble. Wayne is a friendly guy and we know he will be successful at any job he undertakes. This was our Grid-Iron Queen, Joyce Jones. Joyce was very busy in high school, being the President of F.H.A. and class President during her Junior year. She had an interest in music for she played the French horn in the band and sang in the chorus. She hopes to become a nurse after she is out of school, and we know that with her personality she shouldn’t have a very hard time of it. V JOYCE JONES ROSALIE KRESHA This friendly senior girl Rosalie Kresha always had a smile and a compliment for everyone. Rosalie has been a member of chorus. Pep Club, and F.H.A. She played the part of Grade May in the Junior class play. She plans to be a teacher in the future. Janelle Kuhnel was a cheerleader during her Junior and Senior year. She played first chair trombone in the band and sang in the choruses. Janelle made use of her literary ability by being assistant editor of the Mike and layout editor of the annuaL She was Osceola’s representative at Girls’ State. She has been the secretary and treasurer of F.H.A. during the past two years. Her future plans are to get a job. JANELLE KUHNEL This friendly Senior boy, Adrian Lewis, was gone from Osceola during his Junior year of high school. He was Grid-iron attendant and one of our active football players. He seemed to be in on most of the mischievous schemes in which Don Mickey was involved. Adrian had artistic talent which he could put to good use. He has future plans of joining the service. Duane Lindeblade was one of the quiet and reserved boys of our class. He was on the basketball squad and got in there and fought for die ball along with the other guys. Duane plans to farm after he is out of school. ADRIAN LEWIS DUANE LINDEBLADE This is the President of our Pep Club, Carolyn Marak. She is also the Vice-President of F.H.A. Carolyn was active in music, belonging to the band and choruses. She showed her talent for acting in the Junior Play. She plans to work after she graduates. Don Mickey was usually behind most of the mischievous acts in this class. His ability to keep a straight face kept him out of trouble, though. Don was a Grid-iron attendant last falL He is married to the former Murlene Miller and wants to make farming his career. CAROLYN MARAK DON MICKEY SHIRLEY MILLER Shirley Miller was a majorette for three years, belonged to Pep Club, and the choruses. Her friendliness won her the honor of being Gridiron attendant. She played the part of “Ma Hollowbone” in the play and it was a wonder she got through her part without breaking out in the fantastic giggle she is known for. Shirley plans to work, and then who knows? This attractive and dependable girl JoLene Peterson served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the class this year. Her musical talents were shown in band and in the choruses. She was a member of the Pep Club. JoLene was one of the Gridiron attendants last fall. She plans to be a secretary when she graduates. Kenny Pros os ki was the guy who really seemed to enjoy polkas. He played football and was a grid-iron attendant for Homecoming last falL F.F.A. and Madrigal seemed to be some more of his interests. Kenny plans to continue schooling after he graduates. John Pulliam was a great one for telling jokes and arguing with the teachers. His favorite trick was slapping kids on the back. He played the part of an ancient lover in the Junior class play. John wants to include farming in his future. S d KENNETH PROSOSKI Marian Ransom was one of the smallest girls in this class. She came to O.H.S. during her Junior year and entered right into high school activities. Marian played a part in the Junior play, but not much was seen of her as she was usually hiding under the table. She plays the clarinet in the band and was a member of the chorus. She belonged to the Pep Club also. One of the quieter and more studious members of the Senior Class is Karen Richards. She belonged to Pep Club and sang in the choruses. In typing Karen proved to be one of the speedy ones of the class. She has future plans of taking up nurses training at which we are sure she will work hard. MARIAN RANSOM DIXIE WALGREEN Dixie Walgreen was more or less the “brains” of the class. She was a majorette for three years, belonged to Pep Club and the choruses, and was a Grid-iron attendant last fall. The position of Secretary and T reasurer of the class was held by “Dix” for two years. She wants to get a job this summer and she’d like to go on to school in the fall. Ruth Zelda was one of the more studious girls of this class. Whenever anyone was goofing off” Ruth managed to pay no attention to them and kept her mind on her work. She sang in die Girls’ Chorus. She plans to be a teacher. It's just Mrs. Jelden and Anne demonstrating the do's and don’t's of Home Nursing. Office Practice has these girls in a dither. If they could learn their alphabet it would be a lot easier. Careful with that machinery, fellas. You'd hate to lose a couple fingers by the process of elimination. Now, here's an intelligent looking class. Some of them don’t seem to remember that little saying eyes off the keys, though. Here's a group of gals who are learning to be homemakers. Evidently a couple of them can sew without looking at their material. More power to them. Shorthand seems to be pretty easy for these girls. Just wait till they have to start writing, though. Here's a group of fellows who look as If they are learning to be scientists. Have mercy boys, and don't blow us up! All eyes have to be focused on the blackboard in this English class in order to learn. If not, there's a chance of taking it over next year. Apparently these girls don't mind cutting up poor little animals. At least there aren’t any of them who appear to be getting ill. Whether these bright students are making an H-bomb or just posing we’ll never know. They do seem to be concentrating, though. Math isn't easy to learn, but with this teacher it should be a little bit simpler. This class seems to be very interesting. What theory are you lecturing on, Coach? Steady with that hand, JoAnn. HOMECOMING EVENTS OF HOMECOMING DAY The annual Homecoming day was held September 23, with St, Paul as the opponent in football. At 2:30 the Osceola band led the floats, bands and other participants in the parade up town. The Shelby band also participated. The judges chose the three best floats as they passed in the afternoon. The F.H.A. float won first prize, Juniors won second, and Seniors won third. Between the halves at the football game that night the band and floats again paraded the field. The O.H.S. band formed a heart and played “1 11 See You in My Dreams” while Joyce Jones and Thomas Husak were crowned as King and Queen. The attendants were: Mary Anderson, Kenny Prososke, Dixie Walgreen, Adrian Lewis, Janell Bowman, Don Mickey, Shirley Miller, Tommy Hastings, Jolene Peterson, Wayne Johnson. Patty Lou Gullberg and John Sedlak were flower girl and crown bearer. After the game there was a dance in the auditorium for St. Paul, Shelby and Osceola students and OHS Alumni. The season started out slowly with losses to David City of 19 to 0 and Stromsburg 13 to 0. The season brightened after two wins from St. Paul, with a homecoming score of 38 to 12, and from Friend by 7 to 0. Polk then stopped the winning streak by deteatingthe Bulldogs by 13 to 6. Genoa followed by defeating us 18 to 0. In our gloom over these losses, inspiration drove the team to defeat the high rated Clarks by 20 to 13 and thus stopped Clarks’ 29 game winning spree. Following this spectacular win, the Bulldogs went on to win from Silver Creek by a score of 14 to 0 and romping St. Edward with an energetic season finish of 33 to 13. This winning season was only possible by the coaching of Robert Manley.
