With the mysterious, life-size Buddha sitting at the foot of a background of huge mountains, an oriental atmosphere was very effectively obtained at the Junior Dance. Upon entering. one crossed an attractive bridge covered with grass and surrounded by sand and flowers. The Buddha was the center of attraction, The mystic tigure of Buddha gazes on the festivities in the Garden of Shrangri-la. 'b 4' Q - 'QL' ig 4, 'E and it was the first thing one saw upon entering the Garden of Shangri-la. Chinese lanterns were hung about on the walls, and several bare trees, which sported only a few pieces of tinsel each. were placed here and there. Carlton Jemigan, Pat Cooper, Alvin McClenny, Nancy'Parker, Mary Neal Stevens, and Otis Brimm stroll across the bridge entwined with vines of ivy.

ziwemdldee Wane Warned The assemblies held this year were as interesting as they were varied. Programs ranged from quiz shows. to the man-less wedding put on by the Junior Class. to the annual Christmas assembly given by the chorus class. Also. during the Christmas season the Senior Class presented a pageant of the Nativity. On another occasion the Great Bridge High School Band gave a con- cert. The Norview players brought part of their variety show hereg this included a dramatic soliloquy by one of the students. and a singing act that brought the house down. On Veterans Day Mr. Clarence Forehand ad- dressed the student body. The SCA sponsored a program on safe driving and a student-body meeting. The star? of W. F. O. S. put on a Truth or Consequences type of program and a hillbilly skit. Two of the assemblies were held in the gym: one for the wrestling match with Beaumont. and the other for the girls' basketball game. which turned into quite an exciting hour. The honor societies of our school. the Beta Club and the Quill and Scroll Chapter, took in new members during the assem- blies devoted to them. Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Odom presented the football boys and the cheerleaders with their stars and hrst-year letters. Later in the year. spon- sors gave awards to deserving students in the awards assembly, Judging from all expressions. everyone is pleasantly surprised at the tapping of Funky Richards by Beta member. Dorothy Beard. Leah Ray lftheridge scores in the game put on by the girl's health department as an assembly program.
