Mr. Garland and Mr. Frazier admire new shop machinery. Statistics can be interesting. especially when they concern people with whom you are acquainted. How much do you know about the teachers, who spend half of each day with you. live days a week? How many of these teachers are married. single, have children, grandchildren, etc? Oh. you don't know? Well read on. The faculty is composed of nineteen married teachers, fourteen single teachers, and one engaged teacher. Two of these married teachers are husband and wife. an unusual situation at Smith High, as there has never been a couple teaching together in the high school of South Norfolk. The children of the faculty members total twenty-seven. their ages ranging from two months to thirty-four years at the time of writing, and there are seven grand-children. The teaching experience ranges from one to forty-two years. Eighteen teachers live in the South Norfolk community, while the rest come from Norfolk. Portsmouth and the outlying areas. Miss West comes the greatest distance: from Hickory, the Dismal Swamp , as she puts it. Former graduates of South Norfolk High School teach in several schools in the system, but, this year, none of the teachers at Smith High is an alumnus of South Norfolk schools. However, Mr. Brickell, the assistant principal, and Miss Voliva and Mrs. Johnson, office clerks. are graduates of South Norfolk High Schools. MR. JACK R.
