HI-JA CKET Editor: Ginny Waters Assistant Editor: Alice Williams Business Manager: Natalia Hoenigmann Sponsors: Miss Irene Umberger Mr. Herman Butts Publishers: American Yearbook Co. 1 Foreword Progress through high school is a series of doors. For most students at Osbourn, the end of this school year merely marks the closing of another chapter of their high school life; ahead lies a long, fun-filled summer, then back to school again. For Osbourn's Seniors, however, the last door is about to close upon their entire high school career. You, the Class of '65 will travel new and different pathways into the future. From now on you will find new doorways and will begin to shape your own lives. You have a direction to take, a way to do it, and you know the way. Ahead is the door, the handle to turn, the latch to lift. Throughout these years you have been finding, acquiring, filling your pockets with keys. Already the doors are opening. Through how many shall you finally pass? 2 Contents Foreword..........................................2 Contents .........................................3 Dedication........................................5 Honor.............................................6 Principal's Address...............................7 County Administration.............................8 School Administration............................10 Faculty..........................................11 Seniors..........................................19 Juniors..........................................53 Sophomores.......................................63 Organizations....................................73 Athletics.......................................105 Activities......................................137 Advertisements .................................145 3 Dedication It is no ordinary teacher who effectively combines in a classroom ability and knowledge of her subject with personal enthusiasm and understanding. Osbourn High School can boast such a teacher, appreciated not only for her excellence in class, but for her generosity in giving her time to individual students and to varied extracurricular activities. Her warmth and friendship, her ready laughter and unfailing wit are a part of Osbourn. The Annual Staff takes great pride in dedicating the 1964 Hi-Jacket to Mrs. Susan Barbee. 4 Teaches enthusiastically Listens to class discussions Prepares 5 Honor His doors are always open, and his classes spark interest while maintaining informality. Patience and praise are his methods, creativity his theme. For his instruction and guidance, the Annual Staff would like to honor the man with the bamboo pole, Mr. Howard Mallard. 6 The key to the life that each student is building is in his hands. May each of you build wisely and well so that possession of the key to your life will not have been held in vain. William H. Sponsors: Mr. Reed and Mrs. Grayson This year the Class of '67 is again the base of Osbourn's class totum pole. Our Sophomore class, it seems, has been at the bottom since their eighth grade year. When they became Freshmen, the eighth grade level was dropped; and now at Osbourn Senior High their situation is again the same. This position, however, is certainly no standard for the outstanding school spirit and participation of the O.H.S. Sophomores. As they look forward to their Junior Year, we know that they will continue to be a source of leadership and honor to Osbourn Senior High. 64 Barbara Able Gail Alvey Jane Alvey Ann Barbee Ellen Bartlett Rachel Bean Sue Bettis Ronnie Blackwell Stan Boatwright John Bowers Linda Bowman Danny Brashers Connie Breeden Linda Breedon Sharon Bridges Charles Brown Johnny Brown Kay Browne Rita Brown Betty Brumback A1 Brunk Mike Bryant Jeanette Cabaniss Robert Carney Judy Carlton 65 Sandra Carlton Jack Corle Gail Chrisawn William Clark Peggy Coates Joe Connelly Betty' Conner Edgar Conner Arlene Cook Joyce Cornwell Carrie Cornwell Pam Cox Carl Crouch Betty Crouch Valerie Cross David Cregger Linda Cregger Gloria Dasher Gloria Davis Jim DeWolf Pat Dixon Patsy Duckett Christiane Durand John Duritza Ronald Dutton 66 Debbie Dyer Lonnie Fadley Tom Fair Cynthia English Robert Edwards Tommy Evans Joyce Fairfax Pam Fairfax Donnie Feltner Joseph Franzello Bonnie Fur Ion Eugene Furr Joyce Geris Geraldine Gheen Rick Gibson Buddy Godfrey Gloria Grubb Jackie Hall Darold Hamilton William Harris SlM. _____ Karen Hayes Kathy Hayes Jerry Haynes Ernest Hoenigmann David Hoffman Margaret Leach Ralph Leonard Julia Loftin Gilda Lowe Linda Lunar Marie Mallard Linda Marsh Judy Martin Joan McDanolds Jo Ann McLaughlin 68 Mickey McKinney Margaret Meredith Lonnie Morris Ronnie Morrissette Beverly Muddiman Bonnie Mullins Reta Mullins Jenny Murefka A. Ramona Larson Joyce Kuhn 104 ATHLETICS UNDEFEA TED BA TTLEFIEI.D DISTRICT CHAMPIONS 1964 With the coming of fall each year students and faculty alike look forward with great enthusiasm to the approaching grid-iron season. After several years of rebuilding, during which the spirit and the backing of the student body never faltered, the '64 season opened with a Yellow-Jackets win for the first time since 1961. This was only the beginning of a season in which Osbourn rolled over its 9 remaining opponents and went untied and unbeaten for the first time in its history, becoming the Battlefield District Champions the second year upon their return into the Battlefield District. Highlights of the season were the 14 to 7 win over James Monroe; the 9 to 7 win over a strong Orange team that had a record of 9 and 1; ending the season by beating Gar-field by the greatest margin since 1961; and bringing home the Journal Messenger trophy. This year the team under the able leadership of its superb coaching staff showed, with unsurpassed dedication, that Osbourn is once again a powerhouse. Some of the major factors in this year's success were a strong group of senior lettermen; the knowledge that the team was a team and played as such; and the ever present sportsmanship displayed by students and team alike on and off the field. Students of Osbourn may rightly be proud, for their team is one of the only six in the state that went untied and undefeated. Osbourn and the Hi-Jacket salute the '64 Yellow-Jackets and look forward to next year for another highly successful season. 106 FIRST ROW: R. Morisctte, L. Smith, D. Angelico, L. Murphy, J. Corle, S. Varsity Okay! Let s hustle! These familiar words were repeated by the starting team each time they walked onto the basketball court Under the instruction of Coach Nelson they learned new plays, perfected the old ones, and practiced continually. The team poured their hearts into every game because they knew how the coach felt and didn t want to let him down. The wins, the losses, the thrillers, the heartbreakers throughout the season were the product of a bunch of boy's who were inexperienced at the first of December and ended up in February, a smooth, fast and honest-playing team.
