Ringler Sponsors: Miss Betty Whitenack Mr. Herman Butts Publishers: American Yearbook Co. FOREWORD Time has passed all too quickly for most of us and suddenly we find that it is nearly time to graduate. When one enters Osbourn in the autumn of his eighth grade or freshman year, graduation seems as far away as the sun, but by the time his junior year has ended, he realizes that the calendar has changed many times and that four years has truly sped by. For the senior class this last year in high school is the time for farewells; some of which will be for only a short time; others that will be forever. Come with the Hi-Jacket Staff and relive the year just passed . This experience will soon be forgotten by some, but for the seniors it will be something to be remembered in the years ahead. To you, the Class of 1964, is presented this Hi-Jacket in hopes that it has preserved for you some of the important events of this, your senior year. His friendly disposition and his emphatic NO!”, have become trademarks of a well-rounded personality. Sincere in his work and dedicated to the fundamental principles of the teacher, he ever extends a helping hand to those students who seek out his help. We, the annual staff, take great pride in dedicating this, the 1964 Hi-Jacket to our friend, former sponsor, and assistant principal, Mr. Robert L. Franklin. 4 HONOR Miss Mary B. Nelson All those students who have come in contact with our Honored Teacher know that she is always willing to help them with a particular problem in or out of class. Her emphasis on important events, people, and places is her way of teaching her students what they should know when the time comes for them to fill a place in the outside world as responsible citizens. The members of the 1964 Hi-Jacket take this opportunity to honor Miss Mary B. Nelson, 5 Mr. William H. Wood, Principal The calendar theme selected by the staff of the 1964 Hi-Jacket is certainly an appropriate one, for a calendar is a constant reminder to each student that time is a hard master. The days, the weeks and the months of the 1963-1964 school year have slipped by, never to be retrieved, and for all of us there is the haunting realization that time has passed us by with our failures and halfaccomplishments. But the calendar promises that time is also a kind master with the days, the months, and the years of our lives lying blank and untouched before us. It is my sincere wish for each student who is remaining and for each graduating senior who is leaving Osbourn that the calendar of the future will be filled with success and happiness. 6 Mr. Herbert Saunders Director of Personnel COUNTY ADMINISTRA TION Mr. Joseph TostL Administrative Assistant 7 Mr. Robert L. There is just one word that students use to describe our faculty, and this word is, Great! The faithful and devoted teachers ever strive to instill in their pupils the high ideals of their profession. Furthermore, they are always willing to help those who seek aid and they set the example for the citizen and voter-to-be. We are proud of our faculty and we take this chance to salute them for their help in educating the future leaders of our committee and country. SENIOR OFFICERS: Patsy Manns, Representative to Council; Bunny Jeblick, Treasurer; Gloria Graham, Secretary; Barbara Kelly, Vice President; David Wolfe, President. The Senior is a strange person. All year long he looks forward to one time --graduation, and it seems as though the year does not go by fast enough. But when that long awaited day does come, he suddenly realizes all that he will be leaving behind, and he wishes his high school years had not gone by as quickly. He fondly remembers all the good times -- the football games and dances, the Prom and Senior picnic, the friends he has made and the fun they have had together. In years to come, as the Senior looks back through his Hi-Jacket, it is sincerely hoped that he will recall the good times of 1964. HI-JACKET Long hours of work on afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays are a dim outlook, but these are what each year's Hi-Jacket staff must face. Perseverance and determination are the only ways a yearbook can be produced so they become the bywords of the club. Slowly but surely the Hi-Jacket has taken shape. Picture by picture and word by word the pages have fallen into place. Certainly there were mistakes, which sometimes were unavoidable, but the work has made the members proud that they have published their own yearbook. Under the leadership of Coach Nelson the team did the one thing that has been impossible in the last few years -- winning the opening game. A thrilling victory over rival Gar-field helped make this season one of the most exciting ever. With the exception of three seniors the team is made up of sophomores and juniors. WRESTLING When you mention wrestling to most people they usually think of the professional type of wrestling on T.V. High school wrestling is very different. The purpose of wrestling is to build body strength, self-defense, and sportsmanship. At this time Osbourn has several wrestlers who are undefeated. With each match the team seems to improve. By the time regional and state matches come up Osbourn should have some of the top men in the state. The boys should be commended for the fine work they are doing in a growing sport. Although we lost our chance to compete for district championship by one game, the season was predominately a winning one. All through the season spirits soared.
