I ORGANIZATIONS MUSIC........ SPORTS....... ACTIVITIES JoreworcJ t Time passes; graduation- day grows nearer; as the symphony of our school year draws to a close, the notes grpw lighter and fainter and finally die away. Gone forever is the symphony of school life, but the pielodies in it will be hummed forever as we recall the experiences we had and the friends we made at our Osbourn High. It is the hope of the 1959 HI-JACKET staff that as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recall the harmony of those moments-andhear the melody, faint but clear, again. It is fitting that as the year 1958-59 draws to a close that the students reflect not only on what they are leaving at Osbourn, but what they take with them. The Seniors will always carry with them memories of Miss Pauline Smith, who as a teacher, advisor and friend has won a place for herself in the heart of all of Osbourn. The 1959 HI-JACKET is dedicated to Miss Pauline Smith. Dedication 4 on or Because of his competency in the Senior English department, because of the unique-ness of his position as Osbourn's first ex-change teacher, and because of the per-manent niche he has earned in the hearts of his students and the faculty, the 1959 HI-JACKET wishes to honor Dr. Johannes Pastoor, exchange teacher from the Netherlands. JOHN EVERETT CORNWELL fc A 9n JKemoriam The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. 6 Psalms: 23 dministration It is a real privilege to enter the senior year and to have Mr. W. R. Murphy as the class advisor; it is particularly appropriate' for Mr. Murphy to be our sponsor, since he entered Osbourn High School as principal when we, the senior class, entered as eighth graders. As a principal, he has guided us individually four years through toil and tribulation, until, at last, he has advised us as a class. Many of our successes would not have been possible without the ever-present, helping hand he held outstretched to us. We shall always revere the principal who aided us in innumerable ways at Osbourn. 8 Administration Osbourn High School is fortunate to be connected with an administration such as that of Prince William County. Starting with the Superintendent of Schools through the office of Osbourn High School, an excellent job has been done to provide students with adequate facilities and a pleasing school atmosphere. Mr. James Leo, Assistant Principal Mrs. Charles Wildman, Secretary Mr. Stuart Beville, superintendent of schools, and Mr. Claude DeHaven, director of instruction. MURPHY Sponsor In September, 1954, we entered the doors of what is now our dear old stamping grounds, Osbourn High School. We must admit - at first we were a little scared, considering this was our first adventure in a high school; but by the end of our eighth grade, we nad learned most of the tricks and trades of being high school students. As Freshmen, we began to take part in all our school activities. Many of our classmates were proving themselves as athletes on the basketball, softball, and baseball teams. We appreciated Osbourn more now since we could walk down the halls with our heads up and really feel as though we belonged. We never will forget our Latin and algebra classes; especially that familiar hie, haec. hoc of Miss Trimmer. Our Sophomore year was a lot of fun but we were concentrating more on our studies preparing for the years to come, and looking forward to our last two years as Juniors and Seniors. Finally the year that we had all been waiting for was here, and we were anxiously awaiting all the specials of being Juniors. Busily we worked on our prom therne of Japanese Gardens. It was one of the greatest proms Osbourn has seen; or at least we think so. A touch of Texas was woven into our Junior year by our class sponsor, Mrs. Orville Trask, who made our year so successful. Our class sponsored the first ring dance, when the class rings were presented. Alas! Alas! We are finally Seniors, hoping for the biggest and best year yet. TO BE SURE, we will never forget our English class with Mr. Pastoor. 18 . MV Everything: Johanne RiddicV and Sig Witt RUTH M. ANSTINE Hi-Jacket 3,4; Band 1-4; De bate 3; Drama 1-4; FTA 4. GAYE M. The Entire Staff This is your yearbook. In this book, we have attempted to transpose the harmony, as well as discord of our school year. You, who have made the song of this year resound forever as a permanent part of Oshoum High School, are noted throughout these pages. As you look back through the HI-JACKET in the years to come, we hope that it will serve as a complete memory for the 1959 year - academically, socially, actively, and musically. Assignments, writing, re-writing, typing, proofreading, juggeling the copy on the layout sheets, rushing back and forth to the printers are all problems in the making of our school paper. After solving these problems, another copy of the YELLOW JACKET is ready for distribution among the students.
