FIRST ROW: M. Powell, S. Leith, L. Saunders, B. Murray, J. Rose-berry, S. Carter. SECOND ROW: F. Nicholson, B. Wheeler, D. Hicks, P. Broaddus, A. Hamilton, R. Vorhauer. I Debate and Public Speaking Coach: Miss Irene Hughes Our debaters learn poise and ability to express themselves, which will be useful in later years. While debating, they develop a talent for reasoning and rapid thinking. The debate club has had the opportunity, through their tournaments with other schools, to promote better interscholastic relations. They have won state honors and we feel that we can be justly proud of such a fine organization. The aims and purposes of the Osbourn High School Debate the Public Speaking Club are: To promote better interscholastic relations; to fight adverse publicity given by delinquents to the average teenager; to promote better understanding of important topics before the American People; to give high school students practice in debating and public speaking; to give students experience in doing simple and more complicated reference work; to provide to the interested members of the student body of Osbourn High School an organization which will give them a better background for college and also provide greater opportunity for a college scholarship, and probably the most important—to provide enjoyment for high school students.
