With her, began a succession of teachers all of whom impressed a small portion of their personality upon us; all of whom left some bit of knowledge upon us. In thankfulness to them for the many hours they spent molding us into better citizens, and encouraging us to see the finer things of life, with pride we honor ogr past teachers. He takes the time and has the patience and wisdom to deal with our everyday problems, no matter the smallness of them. To administer a school system as large as ours is a complicated task indeed, but we are never reluctant to approach him because we are received so cordially. It is an honor and a pleasure to call him Our Superintendent. Working in close conjunction with Mr. Beville, our Principal, Mr. William R. Murphy supervises our school activities. His concern for each student and his attention to their individual problems, are sources of constant amazement to us. The annual den has been buzzing with activity as we have tried to produce the very best yearbook yeti Pages and pages of layouts have been arranged and rearranged to achieve the best possible results. Our busy typists were producing articles with amazing speed, while proofreaders scanned the complete pages. We collected ads and subscriptions to make the publication possible, as our editor and business manager faced all these headaches with a smile. We shall never forget the understanding help which our sponsor willingly gave, and the good-natured manner of our photographer. These efforts took time and lots of it, but we knew we were gaining experience which would be invaluable. We hope we have succeeded, and that you will find your time spent in paging through the 1957 Hi-Jacket interesting and rewarding. Hellow jacket Staftb SPONSORS: Miss I. Hughes, Mrs. R. The Yellow Jacket, starting the year with more problems than usual, has undergone surgery and now wears what we hope is a more attractive face. Editor and Sponsor worked and worried while problems grew and deadlines approached, but satisfaction came as a reward when the efforts began to show. The news that is read and enjoyed by students is the product of good hard work. It has been a year that we will long remember for its pressures, problems, and its fun and wonderful experience. Our hope is that we have served well. They have won state honors and we feel that we can be justly proud of such a fine organization. The aims and purposes of the Osbourn High School Debate the Public Speaking Club are: To promote better interscholastic relations; to fight adverse publicity given by delinquents to the average teenager; to promote better understanding of important topics before the American People; to give high school students practice in debating and public speaking; to give students experience in doing simple and more complicated reference work; to provide to the interested members of the student body of Osbourn High School an organization which will give them a better background for college and also provide greater opportunity for a college scholarship, and probably the most important—to provide enjoyment for high school students. The Junior Bees met their opposition with readiness and a strong will to win, which contributed greatly to their success in having an undefeated season this year. The strength of the line plus the shiftiness of the backfield proved to be the combination which produced their fine record. We congratulate them and hope to see them in action again next season. We spent this school term acquainting ourselves with high school life. By the end of the first semester we were finally getting to class on time during the five minute breaks, carrying our lunch to the cannery on the Bennett Elementary School lunchroom, and remembering to bring our umbrella on the rainy days for the walk to physical education class in the gymnasium. As Freshmen, we spent one week being initiated into the high school life. This week was celebrated as Rat Week. Polishing shoes, carrying books, buying lunches for the Seniors and wearing pajamas to school are the memories that remina us of this enjoyable week. We began this year at the Baldwin School and by the end of the term we entered the new Osbourn High School. The term 1954-55, as Sophomores, brought us many new responsibilities. As Sophomores, we had our introduction to the dances, sports, and many assemblies. We began to take these things to heart in order to help boost our school spirit and establish better relationship among the classes. The big event during the year was the Freshman—Sophomore Hop. The Junior year brought the Big Junior—Senior Prom. We will never forget the time, effort and fun we had giving the Prom. The theme of Neptune, carried to the fullest extent, proved to be a great success. Another memorable day of this year was the day the class rings were received. As Seniors, we entered the 1956-57 term with many plans for the future. For each of us the future holds something different. Outstanding events this last year are the Senior Class Banquet, the Senior Trip, Graduation and many other activities that we will always keep alive and with us.
