She has helped to make this year enjoyable, and we hope that this book will be a reminder of her stay here. 4 MR. J. The Student Cooperative Association is the self-governing organiza¬ tion through which the students plan and carry out school activities. The purpose of this organization is to promote the idea of self- government among its members, to create a deeper sense of responsibility, and cooperation, and to sponsor activities for the further development of the school. SCA is made up of all the students in the school, but it has two govern¬ ing bodies which are the Senate and the Council. The Senate is composed of three Seniors, two Juniors and one Sophomore. The Council is made up of the chairmen or presidents of all home rooms, clubs, committees, and organizations. The Senate is appointed by the Council, which in turn is elected by the student body. The committees (Extra-Curricular Activities, Buildings, Grounds, Health, Publicity, and Monitors) are each composed of a chairman, a faculty sponsor, and a representative from each home room. Two members of the Osbourn High School class of 1954, after ten years, decided that they would like to take a trip around the world, and in doing so visit all their former classmates from Osbourn. This is an account of their trip: We were very excited as we boarded the huge air liner at the Manassas International Airport. The First stop in this wonderful trip would be New York City. Right away we decided to see the Statue of Liberty. When we arrived there, who should we walk into but none other than Clair Fletcher. He explained to us that as he gazed adoringly at Miss Liberty some years ago, he decided that he had finally found a girl who would be true to him. From that day on, he had been caretaker of the grounds. Love is a strange thing. After we left Clair, we went to Radio City Music Hall, where we, watched Miss Barbara Clark on the TV program, “What’s My Line? ’’ When the show was over, Miss Clark, who is a demonstrator for the Nicotina Cigarette Company She told us that Carol Breeden was now Mrs. Charles Rector, and they That night we went to the“Occoquan Club’’, which was run by our old friends Roy Clark and Floyd Gardner. As we opened the door, sweet trumpet music reached our ears. The song seemed to be fairly familiar, and as we listened more closely we could hardly believe that the trumpet player was none other than Dwight Knupp. We asked Dwight about Paul Royer, and he told us that Paul was the Co-owner of Rohr Royer 5£ to 10£ Store, which had outlets in 19 large cities over the U.S. He also told us that he had worked awhile for Roger Woods, at his Bar Grille, “The Lone Stranger,’’ but Roger had decided to go back into the grocery business. “More respectable,’’ he decided. The next morning we caught the boat for Europe. In London, we met Gene Daffa, the owner of the Daffan Charm School. He took us to see Edith Schultz, who was a Lady-in- Waiting to the Queen. On the way out we passed the Palace Guard, and who should we see but Jack Martin. It seems that in high school, he had enjoyed marching to and from Phys. Ed. so much, that he decided to make it his life occupation. From London, we journeyed to gay Paree, where we went to see another of our old classmates Betty Jean Lowe. In Paris, she is better known as Mademoiselle Jeanne, the French modern Marilyn Monroe. She told us that in her latest film, “I like Men,’’ Hazel Stanley and Mary Jane Simpson were chorus girls. The next stop in our trip was Moscow, where we met Gary DiVecchia, the New York Times ace reporter. Gary told us that he had drilled a hole in the Iron Curtain, and was writing an up-to-the-minute report on the Soviet. Gary traveled with us to Greece to write on the Olympic games. There we found Frank Hoss, who had just been named as ‘Mr. World Sports’’ of 1964. From Greece we went on to the Sahara Desert. We visited with Don Thomas there. He explained to us that he had become involved in so many love affairs, that he decided he would get away from it all, and therefore joined the French Foreign Legion. Also in Africa, we met Gorgeous Joe Herring, the famous wrestler, who was in the country on a world tour with his private nurse, Eunice Ebhardt. We went from here to India, where we stayed at the home of Mrs. John Bull, the former Christine Dotterer. She and her husband, and her brother-in-law, Robert Bull, had come to India to teach the Indians how to raise Sacred Cows, and had established quite a profitable business. After leaving the Bulls and their Sacred Cows, we went to China. We decided to see a Chinese Temple, but as we entered, what should we see but Mary Alice Dodd, sitting in the Buddha’s lap making love to him. On our way home now, we visited the Hawaiian Islands. The first person we met there was Edith Posey, who was a model for Slinky Bathing Suits. The manager of the Company for whom Edith worked was none other than Jackie Earhart. Seems he sort of likes bathing suits. Our trip abroad was now over, but we still had to cross the good old U.S.A. before reaching home again. In San Francisco we went to see Betty Swank and Laura Fries, who were the owners of a publishing company. They told us that they specialized in printing annuals for high schools, copied after the 1954 Hi-Jacket. The next day we drove down to Hollywood and who should come driving down. Sunset Boulevard in a red and white striped Cadillac convertible, but Charlotte Blevins and Joan Stroup. They were both famous movie stars. In their mink coats, bermuda shorts, and sun glasses, they didn’t recognize us, but we waved anyhow. And just as they drove by, we recognized their chauffeur too. It was none other than Fred Ulle. As we crossed the country, we stopped in Salt Lake City, where we heard there was a Secretarial Convention. There we saw Ruth Lynch and Fayrene Childress. Ruth was working for the Convertible Cat Club and Fayrene for the Library of Congress. They told us that Tommy Lightner lived in New Orleans as the Southern Representative for Surburban Gas, Inc. Then we traveled North to Chicago, where we visited another old classmate, Betty Kennedy who was now happily married. We learned from her that Mrs. Curtis Brenner, the former Madeline Leonard, was living in Detroit. Also in Chicago, we stopped at a little Good Humor stand for some food, and who should the owner be but Edith Cornwell. She told us that since the tea we had for Mrs. Myers in the winter of 1954, she had become so used to making tea and cookies that she decided to start a little business so she could follow her husband, who is now in service. Coming South again, we stopped in Philadelphia to see Donald Kline, who was Supervisor of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He told us that the previous year, Fred Chandler and Bill Speakes had struck oil in Oklahoma and they were so afraid that someone might steal it, they built a huge brick wall around it. Donnie also said that Barry Allen had stopped in to see him on his way to New York for a Bankers Convention. It seems that a distant relation of Barry’s died and left him $100 billion dollars worth of bank stock. Getting close to home now, we stopped in Washington to see Stanley Hayes, who was the Ambassador to Alaska. Stanley was the last one we visited before starting back on the last lap of our long trip in good old Prince William County again and flying down the highway we passed the Groveton Heights High School, which was built by the famous engineer, Curtis Harrover. Also we noticed Roberta Costello sitting on the front porch of a house in a rocking chair. She informed us that working was just to hard and she decided to retire. We also stopped in a minute at the “Milmar Speedshop” to see Bobby Reid, the famous mechanical inventor. He told us that his speedshop was the only one in the country, with an ice skating rink and drug store combined. Coming into Manassas, we went directly to the Osbourn High School where we visited for a few minutes with Grach Cavazos, who was the Spanish teacher. She told us that a new course had just been started at Osbourn. It was Weight Lifting and Muscle Building, under the instruction of “Burly Brice Corder’! She also told us that a new club, called Rockwood Circle had just opened on the outskirts of town. The proprietors were Shirley Colling and Na ncy McCuin. Here many of our former classmates were having a gay old time dancing to their favorite tunes. Hitting the big city of Manassas, we ran into Romelle Swigart who had just completed the World Concert Tour. This gal really has the musical talent. Having completed our journey and visiting all our former classmates, we threw a party back in the old halls of our beloved Osbourn High School.
