MARY B. NELSON ' K : %f0i9e £ . mmmammm J HI-JACKET Published by the Students of OSBOURN HIGH SCHOOL Manassas, Virginia FOREWORD Thereare, indeed, as someone has said, Times that try men ' s souls. Thus at a timewhenable leadership, clear thinking, and great strength of character are needed to carry us through, we turn our thoughts to one who was but recently among us and who possessed these needed character¬ istics to a remarkable degree — Miss Eugenia Hillary Osbourn. WE DEDICATE MISS EUGENIA HILLARY OSBOURN 1867-1951 Educator, Administrator Civic Leader There is one simple, beautiful word that comes immediately to mind as we regard, with cheerful recal l, the many memories we have of Miss Eugenia Osbourn. That simple word is Christina. We remember her as a leader of—a monument to—a great example of—the educa¬ tional program, both public and private, of Prince William County. We recall her service as principal of our school. Her name shall always be with us—for it is she after who our school is named—a tribute to one whom we remember as Miss Eu¬ genia . 3 WE WELCOME MR. We cherish each and ever association with our companions and teachers. We remember the good times and those that were not so good . At the beginning of our Freshman year, we were told by many whose high school days were long past, that the years to follow would be among the happiest years of our lives. So with the great enthusiasm displayed everywhere by Fresh¬ men, we began our high school careers. Sophomores never do anything. They are such dull individuals, or so we were told by the mighty Seniors and by a few members of the faculty. We were re¬ minded of the origin of the word which is translated from the Greek as wise fool. As Juniors, we experienced the great lift that comes with the realization that there remains one and only one more year till graduation. We ordered our school rings and with great enthusiasm prepared for the Junior-Senior Prom, which as always, was a tremendous success. At last, we were Seniors and the dizzy whirl of activities in the last year of school began. Dances, dates, school rings, graduation pictures, the arrival of the annual, ordering caps and gowns—these and a multitude of other things filled our leisure moments—some little part of which—we think—was devoted to study. Then that serious and solemn hour was upon us—we attended our Baccalaureate service. A few days passed and electric wtih anticipation, we with forward to receive our diplomas and hear the pronouncement graduates of Osbourn High School. 8 MARLENE JOYCE ALBERTSON WALTER HAYDON ALPAUGH JOHN CLARK BAKER DAVID AUSTIN BARBEE JACQUELINE BEACH 9 RICHARD GARY BLACK RONALD HOWARD BLACK MARY JANE BREEDEN NANCY CATHERINE BREEDEN ROBERT ALLISON BURCHARD HELEN CARROLL ELEANOR LEE CATON RONALD EDWARD CAVANAUGH LORETTA CLARK ANN WARREN COLEMAN ALVIN RADFORD COMPTON CAREY CORDER ELIZABETH CORNWELL ELLEN FRANCES CRABILL HAYNES WILLARD DAVIS, JR, MARC SARCHET DAVIS MARTHA ANNE EAGLE DELLA ANNETTE FLYNN ESTHER ANNA FOX JOYCE ANN FOX LOUISE FALLIGANT GALLEHER i BETTY LEE GARMAN SENIA ANN FRANCES GOUGH CARL MASON GARDNER ETHEL LUCILLE GREGORY GERALD HART GREGORY ROBERT M. They are laughing at the deaf boy. Y e ■ Imagine it! Part of a movie was actually filmed at Osbourn. The film, produced by the National Education Association, is designed to present modern methods of teaching contrasted with older and often less progressive procedures as a method of presenting the profession to the public and recruiting new teachers. The scene shown above (1920 ' s) concerns a boy, Robert Tully, who is deaf (the teacher and his class¬ mates are unaware of his difficulty) and is considered to be stupid. All laugh at his fai lure toanswer correctly his teacher ' s questions. All, that is, except Lou Galleher who has sympathy for him. Hisdeafness is dis¬ covered when he is nearlyhitbya car because of his failure to hear its horn. (One of Edgar Rhor ' s antique automobiles is used.) Lou, who un¬ derstood his trouble, grows up and becomes a fine teacher. One sees that the modern teacher is trained to recognize such problems. 49 POSES THEV WOULD LIKE TO Ronald Cavanagh FORGET Ursula Von Loesch Carol O ' Donovan 50 LEFT TO RIGHT: Bobby Parks, Sonny Laws Stanley Earhart, and Mr Brent MR.
