S. C. A. Officers President .Stewart Reid Vice-President Helen Ritter Stenographer .Vera Rose Merchant Secretary . Fleur Peters Treasurer .Emily Speakes Parliamentarian Benny Cross Student Cooperative Association There was close competition during the 1948 election of the officers of the S. C. A., which resulted in the election of Stewart Reid as president. The out¬ standing plank in his platform was to secure one or more scholarships which would be open t o students of this school when they graduated. During the year, Stewart has achieved his aim by securing a hundred-dollar scholarship to Randolph-Macon. The old hand-rung bell has been replaced by an automatic electric bell. The gym floor has been painted; several new clubs and committees have been added. There have also been some changes in the organization of the committees. An intramural sports program has been developed this year; the competi¬ tion between the classes has become so strong that every free Activities Period is eagerly awaited. In November, Betty Lou Breeden, Fleur Peters, Stewart Reid, and Jackie Saylors attended the State S. C. A. Convention at Richmond. They returned with very interesting reports. The County Federation meeting was held in April of last year, with Osbourn playing host to Brentsville and Occoquan High Schools. The annual meeting was held again this spring. In addition to the President and the other S. C. A. officers, there are two branches of our student government. The Senate, which is composed of three Seniors, two Juniors, and one Sophomore, is the most powerful of these. The Council, which is composed of the heads of the home rooms, clubs, and committees, works hand in hand with the Senate to carry the students’ wishes in accordance with the school laws. This year, due to a great controversy, Rat Week, which here¬ tofore has been an annual affair, was not held. Regardless of their many achievements and fine records, the S. C. A., Council, and Senate would be nothing without the cooperation of the student bodv. 26
