R OBERT CORNELL Advisers A,,,w..... MISS FAULCONER, MISS NELSON The enior Class Remember how we felt back four or live years ago when We were just starting out on that long, long trail of years with Class of '48 shining like a torch at the end? Here we are at the top, and do we feel any dif- ferent? Well, maybe we do. We remember how we felt when we were little insignificant Freshmen, being initiated into the wonders of high school. Unhappily for us, Rat Week was installed, when we were lowly Freshies. So, we could not escape that horror. For a while we scuttled through the halls, not daring to call our souls our own. Then we began to take notice. This was a grand set of teachers we hadg we began to find new friends among new classmates and the upper classmeng over us on the wall in the auditorium was Miss Eugenia's portrait looking down on us, and back of it all, dear old Osbourn High watching over us. That year came to an endg and then we were Sophomores, one step nearer our goal. When Sep- tember came 'round, we were back again, but not green Freshmen any more. We were the Sophomore Class-that in-between stage, neither most lowly nor most high. We saw our classmates chosen for Hal- loween Court, and we saw the months go by and the gym decorated for the Prom for which we weren't eligible yet. We saw another Senior Class leave, and here we were, Juniors! That year flew by toog it seemed Time knew we hadn't much longer to stay here, and was making it even less. That was the year of the Prom we really worked on, complete with memory books and all the Hxin's. Then the Prom was only a memory, and a few scraps of faded crepe paper and the ribbon from the girls' corsages. Then it was time to say goodbye to our friends in the graduating class, and embark on our last summer vacation from Osbourn. In the Fall of '47, we chose Oliver Dashiell for our President, Betty Coverston as Vice-President, Joyce Keys as our Class Secretary, and Bobby Cornell as Treasurer, to guide our steps along the last stretch of the trail. The end of ,47 went as smooth as silk, and we stepped into '48 with the knowledge that this was Our Year-our year to receive the final honors from Osbourn High, and our year to relinquish the trail-blazing to the on-coming Senior Class. It was our year, too, we realized, to discover in our hearts that which we, as Freshmen, couldn't have believed possible-that little sharp pain at leaving our Alma Mater to the underclassmen, however able to carry on they might be. The year of the Prom that was what no other Prom yet had been, the year of looking on from above, and toward the end, already feeling a little left out, when we heard the underclassmen talk- ing of next year. Well, next year think of us. And think of us on Graduation Night as the strains of the Recessional take us farther and farther from Osbourn High. And in years to come remember the Class of '48. We'll be remembering you and everyone and every- thing that make up Osbourn. We won't need mem- ory books or diaries to remember it all. After all, how could we forget?
