The treasures in this book are invisible, the pictures and words are only reminders because each individual claims something different from each one. Every per- son has formed his own impressions of the past year. By facing your accomplishments and your failures and gaining an insight from them, you may relive, in part, this year. The Class of '66 Will never again experience the joys of their Senior year at O.l-I.S.g yet this annual will help them remember the activities. The Freshman, Sopho- more, and junior Classes have this great year to look forward to, perhaps this yearbook will give them an idea of what the next year holds for them. Now is the time for each person to gather his treasures--whether they be large or small. But, more important, it is the time to start building a better future Our paths may never again cross those of our class- mates, yet We will always remember this year at O.H .S and the challenges We faced--and met. 3 ilu, saw ,lm , q s wx' P ' is u i 2 it 'E V , o . i 5? With the coming of a unified school district comes the selection of a new school board to represent the area at large. We Wish to show our appreciation to the present school board for the outstanding work rendered throughout the past years. 4 .Q 1 'lmfii' . ,ul The Student Council president, Alberta Byers, discusses a proposal with the Student Council members. One of their first legislative actions was to present 550.00 to the yearbook fund. The assemblies and school service projects were held as an effort to form bet- ter student relationships. An all-school talent show and an all-school clean-up cam paign were just two of the many activities sponsored by Stuco. The council was in charge of assigning the concession stand at basketball games and had charge of the pop machine in the lower hall. The council was also considering the purchase of a pencil machine to be placed in the hall and the possibility of having a chili supper in the winter when this copy was sent to the publisher. Together with the administration they made regulations for the betterment of the school system. The Student Council officers Tom Troutman, james Zakoura, Ronnie Barden, Alberta Byers, and Patsy Sanders hang Signs to promote school spirit. laisss...r.. f--A G Q if F 22 3 E 2 1 5 e 52 S is as X2 5 Q A 5? 51 Q fi ,Q X2 i 5 3 si S ii K SZ S' 3 5 3 2 Q Q LE K 1 ,,h., , s 2 . 1, xx E 5 2 5 i Q 2:6 s 1 it , f 5 E 1 f 1 3 i 5 5 ,, Q ,.,L ,,V. , I 3 Mr. Ewbank, yearbook sponsor, explains a 3R layout form to the staff. The hardback cover was made up of a blue and White leatherette with the artwork silkscreened in gold. During the 1965-1966 school year the yearbook staff worked many anxious and baffling hours in capturing every facet of the students' world, knowing that, as the years passed by, this book would become increasingly important. This yearbook took the concentrated effort of nine seniors and one junior, with the help and assistance of our sponsor Mr. john Ewbank. The yearbook staff, both in action pictures and in write ups, tried to capture the students of Osawatomie High School in their world. 9 Bill Sinclair, pharmacist, fills a prescription. Occujaations f School Board - i iiii ,, M embers Variea' The school board Was made up of members from all Walks of life W who gave unceasingly of their time and energies, with no financial reimbursement, for the betterment of our school system. It was from - these men that the plan for our educational program was developed. r Planning for the future was of paramount importance to the school board of District 14. The planning of the present school board in the past in contemplating for the needs of tomorrow's students as well as for the needs of today's has been truly commendable. E . 1 w Q .1 Us 'P in . Rules for accrediting secondary schools are checked by Mr. Shaw, principal, and Mr. Swenson, administrative assistant. Position Added To The Admz'nz'stmtz'0n The major change in the 1965-66 school year was the addition to the ad- ministrative staff. Our former coach, Ernest Swenson, took this position three months before the official school year started. With the filling of this post, Mr. Swenson took on part of the load and responsibility that was formerly placed on Mr. Shaw and Mr. York. Mr. Swen- son worked most of the time in the high school under the direction of Mr. Shaw. The problems of attendance and disci- pline in our school were given to him. This gave Mr. Shaw more time to study the curriculum and recommend the needs that will be forthcoming in the future . Botii Mr. Shaw and Mr. Swenson were responsible to Mr. York, whose busy days include making school poli- cies, and setting up the school budget in co-operation with the board. All counseling was done through the office of Mr. Church. He also took care of late enrollments . Mr. Church bringing the students' files up to date. Charles Smith, David Shaffer, and Charlie Kuder, custodians of our school, have just finished adjusting the drawer slides in the biology room. StajA5sisted In School EQjjCiCZ'67ZQ1 Angela Davis, secretary to Mr. Shaw and Mr. Swenson, answers the phone in the office. 13 The custodial and office help is one of the necessities in a school plant Without their support the little tasks that are so vital to the efficiency of teaching would soon result in a crisis. Writing checks is one of the many tasks performed by Io Anne Hays, secretary to Nha York. .Q Wil? 'z 2-5.-. .j rg ,-1 Y ..'. :Z I, X. Our days were filled with a non-stop schedule of classes and activities. From the time we reached school in the morning until our last class had ended in the afternoon, we had little time for any- thing except studying. Several activities provided a little relaxation for us from our busy schedule, And always there were the few minutes between classes that served as a life saver with a quick bite of candy or a gulp of water. Monday through Friday were the uncer- tain daysg what would take place within these hours sometimes led us to experience much anxiety and exasperation. Oh! those minutes when the English book was missing and the last bell had rung. And what would be the excuse for not having the Latin as- signment done again? Always there was that dreadful phrase pop quiz this hour. Yes, these and others were the things that caused us moments of panic Even through ill the distress the happy times--times that won t be forgotten came seeping through L I I . f x . .' , L y . Some students tried to hasten the hours along by dwelling languidly at their lockers with the excuse of a forgotten textbook. Meanwhile, more lengthy as- signments Were madeg unfor- tunately no homework was avoided. With delightful aromas floating up from the Home Ec. room, We could hardly have forgotten that soon it would be time for lunch. Fourth hour government students listen attentively to a lecture on Marxian Socialism, Communism. A flood of humanity swarmed through the halls after returning from a hurried 45-min- ute lunch hour. Once again it was time to gather our tools for learning and begin the grind of enlightening our fertile minds. The Bell! The Bell! Its melody foretold of the me rriment to follow. The evening brought the good times along with the period of study. X .-X H, r i Several frustrating minutes are experienced by Sam Howell, who is impatiently waiting for the train to pass. Kayettes Strivea' For 2000-Point Award With a strong sense of devotion to the ideals of service to school, city, and world, the Kayettes began the year. In accordance with school service, this year's club undertook such tasks as clean- ing the school lounges, hanging mirrors in the girls' restroom, and presenting each teacher with a personalized coffee cup. For local service projects the Kayettes provided fruit baskets, tray favors, and flowers to shut-ins, periodically visited the nursing homes, and helped beautify the city library. World service programs included the support of two Korean orphans and the pur- chase of and delivery of self-help tools to underdeveloped South American countries. Leading the various school, city, and world service programs were team captains Frances Platz, Nancy Marriott, Lois Manly, Mary Mattingly, Gail Perry, Connie Skeens, Martha Fowler, and Dana Dickson. This year the state Kayette organization celebrated its twentieth anniversary. lt has received outstanding service citations from the National Cerebral Palsy Associa- tion, the Logopedic Institute, C .A.R.E. and Meals for Millions. 73 kwfaf'-Mx' - ' ' ' ' A - . . a5,+zf'f-,Q '- I z f K S 5 , 2 E Q, E - 's ' , Q.
