When the class of 1953 entered O ll S as freshmen they d1dn't realxze that they were to have a specxal prlvllege that no other class would ever have They were to be the first class to be graduated from the modern new Osage Hugh School As freshmen these students chose Cary Coonradt Agnes ,Iohanns and B111 Cook to be their class offlcers Pat Landborg Dlck McPha1l and Phllllp Perry served on the student councxl, and Mr Elbert and Mlss Hanson served as class advlsors During their sophomore year, the class of 53 began to branch out Members began to have prominent places ln the dramatic muslc and athletic flelds They also gathered strength in academic subjects They chose Peter Fox, Phllllp Perry and Della Loudermllk to lead them and Bill Cook Gary Coonradt and James Lysgaard served on the student councll Mlss Lehr and Mr McCrane were the class advisors Peter Fox Was agam chosen as president of the 53 class when they became junlors Other offlcers were Junior Erbe and Pat Landborg Gary Coonradt Bonita lleard, James Lysgaard, and Phllllp Perry were chosen to serve on the student councll under the new, more representative home room system of electlon Phnllxp was elected as the councll s vxce presldent and at the beginning of the second semester became president The annual junior-semor banquet was held ln the Methodist Church with the Gay 90's as the theme The banquet chaxrmen were Delores Baker Eleanor Benz Bonlta Heard and Pat Landborg Mrs Vaughn Mxss Macy Mr Graf and Mr Daniels who were the class advxsors, dnd much to help make the banquet a Bonita Heard was starred ln the jumor class play Take Care of My Little Ctrl Other members of the cast were Dale Anderson Delores Baker,Eleanor Benz,Sharon Cordes, Lorralne Decklever, Dorothy Fox, Marlys Cast Yvonne Greenlee Lois Haugen ,lim Kauhn Vemon Kuper, LaRae Kussatz, Pat Landborg, Pat Laughlm Janice McCoy LaVonne Moody Betty Morrlson Merlene Peterson Shlrley Rlchsmann and Edward Schmldt As Jumors Bonita Heard was chosen to attend Gxrls State and Gary Coonradt was chosen as a repre sentatlve to Boys State The class of 1953 opened thelr semor year by movlng lnto the new high school bulldmg They elected Rxchard Penney presndent Bull Cook, vlce-presldent and Edward Schmndt, secretary treasurer Student councll members were Cary Coonradt Agnes Johanns, Pat Landborg Phnllnp Perry, Gary Sheldon, and LaVonne Shoars Phllllp was re elected as the councxl presldent Class advisors were Mxss Dockerty and Mrs Kottman This year the class took a leading part ln all the actnvltles of the school They were very much ln evidence xn all the clubs and honor SOCICIICS, as well as ln the athletlc and music departments In the fall Delores Baker was chosen by the O Club to reign as homecoming queen Her attendants were Pat Landborg and ,Iamce McCoy The GAA chose Duck McPha1l as homecomlng klng Phlllnp Perry was glven a berth on one of the all state football teams, and both Phll and Dick McPha1l were honored on the all conference football team The sen1or's GAA basketball team took flrst place ln the annual toumament held ln March Wlth thexr Commencement rn the new hxgh school gymnaslum the semor class ended their happy and successful four years ln hlgh school O - . for 5 ,, I . . . , 1 l - 1 ' l ' 1 1 . . . l c , . . 1 1 . 1 I . . . ! 1 1 1 U O .
