W hen one of the links in this golden chain is roken the whole school experiences a loss. On October 17 1959 an auto accident left Don Xvelch hospitalized for six long months. Donnie suf- fered '1 broken neck causing temporary paralysis. The road to recovery was hastened by the excellent staff of doctors and nurses of Barnes Hospital St. Louis Mis- souri. Donnie, a 6'4 yunior. was an all around athlete. Playing 'BH team basketball his sophomore year Don racked up the highest total of individual score netting I 10 counters, he held a 7.8 average per game. lixcelling in football, Donnie contributed to the team as an end. lle was a starter in the three games he played. Swimming, skiing and skin-diving were summer- time favorites. The past three consecutive years, Don has been employed at Paradise Beach as a lifeguard, He was a member of the swimming team from Boy Scout Troop Zi, who were the winners of the Sedalia Swim Meet for two years, Donnie was president of the Osage Explorer Unit, Post 21 for the year 1959-60. He participated in camp- ing, hunting and various scout projects through the years. Donnie, we, the students of School of the Osage, dedicate this page to you, the missing link in the golden chain of friendship, that will not be completed until you return to our school,
