The prose reading division included Edward Strange, Davis Smith, Morgan Pope, Carol Symmonds, Lola Coulter, Carolyn Gore, Barbara Atteberry, Ruby Allen, and Ruth Clayton. The representatives selected were Ruth Clayton and Morgan Pope, with Ruby Allen and David Smith chosen as alternates. Gloria Behrens was the only participant in the extemporaneous speaking. In poety reading the representatives selected were Barbara Sanborn and Bill Raynor with Phillp Sandfort and Ruth Clayton as alternates. Others who entered were Gary Cooper, Maggie Bailey, Betty Knoch,Darleene Gould, and Judy James. Mrs. C. T. Williams and Mrs. Kruer acted as critic-judges.

lui-Cauntg, fieatiuaf The Tri-County Speech Festival held at Osage on Friday, February 6, found twenty-three entries from five schools ready to do his be st for his alma mater. Upon arrival, a clever name favor of red and white satin ribbon was pinned on each contestant Of five excellent 'ratings awarded, Osage received three of them. These ratings with blue ribbons went to Billy Raynor, Barbara Sanborn, and Ruth Clayton. Gloria Behrens received an S, the highest rating given in extemporaneous speaking, as also did Morgan Pope in prose reading. . One contestant from each group is eligible to compete in the district contest at Warrensburg in March, and first place award there will qualify the contestant to enter the state contest at Miss- our University in May. Mr. A. L. Thurman of the University of Missouri acted as critic -judge . One -Act Plays Three one -act plays were given the week of March the fifteenth. . ' ' The Clod by Lewis Beach was ably portrayed by Barbara Sanborn, Bill Raynor, Phillip Sandfort, Morgan Pope, and John Robinson. Echo by Robert Kasper included Ruth Clayton, Lola Coulter, David Gaston, and Phillip Sandfort in its cast. The comedy Antic Spring by' Nail found an able cast in Barbara Atteberry, David Smith, Darleen Gould, Gary Cooper, Gloria Behrens, and John Atteberry, The winning vehicle was presented at the Tri-County one- act play festival held in California on March 2.4. From there it went to district festival at Warrensburg. We are hoping for an excellent rating which will take us to the state contest at Missouri University in May.
