SPEECI-I Ney er a dull moment' That might well have been the motto for the speech department this year Scarcely six weeks of school had passed when we were off to Warrensburg where we presented different forms of speech work for the District Teacher s Meeting We gave record interpretions short black outs and readings It was an experience we all will remember especially because we gate our program in the Pit which is the college s circle theater A circle theater usually has very little stage equipment and no curtain' During the month of October we presented a varied program for the P T A The Thanksgiving program was as unusual as it was original It was a se ries of blickouts narrated by Nancy Krueger showing highlights of the years from the first Thanksgiving to Thanksgiving 1951 The program took us from Alaska with The Cremation of Sam McGee to the Gibson Girl from the Marines ralsmg the flag on Iwo Jima to Guiseppr the Barber from Flandet s Fields to the wedding of a German boy and a French girl The program closed with the group kneeling and praying the Lord s Prayer while a spotlight shone on a cross hung in the certer back of the stage December brought Christmas and thoughts of Christmas We gave a P T A program in which the students in English V became for a day messengers from other countries telling their 'audience by prose and music how Christmas is celebrated in their countries The costumes were interesting and quite authen Later in, December the all school Christmas program was presented We mg effects combmed to mike this pageant a program long to be remembered Not long after Christmas we busted ourselves in preparmg our selections for the Tri County Speech Festival Of the Thirty entered in, the preliminary here at Osage Bill Raynor Nellie McGowm Bill Reller Ruth Clayton Barbara Sanborr and Roniald Cummmgs were selected to represent Osage at the Festival The results of the Festival found Osage with two excellents two superiors and two good ratings Not bad considering our mdespensable coach Mrs Henderson was unable to be at school for a full week' We entertained our women s organizations in the near vicinity during 1952 ard in 1951 For Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Eldon we gave our Thanksgiving program Arrowhead Garden Club heard Judy James Mary Vaughn and Peter Gore s selections used in the Speech Festival Barbara Sanborn Morgan Pope ard Phillip Sanborn read for the Red Bud Glarden Club and B111 Reller Ruth Clayton Ronald Cummmgs Judy James and Barbaral Allen played a piano solo that was in keeping with the theme of the program on Sketches Then came the one act plays There were three two dramas Wheat Fire and Concert in the Park and a comedy Hercules Night Out The cast of Wheat Fire was Barbara Sanborn B111 Reller Mary Vaughn and John, Robinson The comedy Hercules Night Out featured John Atteberry Gary Coop er Ruby Allen and Peter Gore Concert m the Park was portrayed by Ronald Cummmgs B111 Raynor D Ann Brmkma and Wayne Danekas On April 4 we went to the District Speech Festival at Warrensburg with the dream of every speech class through the years-the possibility of going to State' an Y' ' .
