SUPERVISOR? MESSAGE MR. KUNSMAN By the time you receive this yearbook in its printed form the formal school days for the class of 1955 of the Orwigsburg High School will be very few in number. At the end of these days comes graduation and your entrance into a new world of responsibilities, obligations and 0PP01'tUUitiCS. Youhave prepared for these by the time you have spent and the efforts you have put forth in completing the work necessary for graduation from the high school of your community, You, as a member of the graduating class, should realize that your community, teachers and schoolhave given of their time, talents, efforts and finances in order that you could reach this goal in your life--graduation. Because of the investments they have made in you and the goalyou have reached through them, you will be more capable of meeting the responsibilities required of a citizen of our nation and of fulfilling that great trust placed in all of us--to up- hold the ideals in which you have been trained and upon which our great nation has been found- ed. As you go forward in the days after graduation, meeting the trials, the complexities and the joys of everyday living, it is my earnest desire that you will find that the community, school and its teachers have served you well. Much of their reward and satisfaction comes from the fact that your life has been made easier, better and fuller because you have graduated from Orwigsburg High School, To each member ofthe Class of 1955 I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the days that lie ahead. It has been a privilege for me to become closely associated with you during your senior year through the organization of the Blue Mountain Joint School System.

PRI CIPAL, MESSAGE Cervantes, the noted Spanish author, haswritten, We stumble oftenest when we look down, not up, In this age of the cold war, the H-bomb, and all sorts ofnational and international tensions some of the youth of our nation, too quickly, look to the future with an air of despair and hopelessness, It becomes very easy to drop their heads and 'look down, ' Some of them also have the erroneous idea that there is nothing new to be accomplished, They believe that with the great scientific and technological advances that have been made in recent years all of the frontiers have been developed. They sympathize with the men inthe U, S. Government Patent Office, who, more than a century ago, felt the office should be closed since nothing remains to be invented, This type of thinking is ridiculous. Also, idle worry about work conditions will never effecta solution to our problems. As intelligent citizens we should certainly be con- cerned about world affairs but we must do more than just worry about them. ln times of crisis and of great need past generations of Americans have always arisen to the challenge andwith a stoutness of heart, an unwavering faith in God , and a resoluteness of purpose, haveovercome these crises. As far as opportunities for accomplishment are concerned, it should beremembered that whenever any new device is invented or any new process is developed many newoccupa- tions are also created, More opportunities for advancement exist today than at anytime in the history of mankind, You, the graduates of Orwigsburg High School, have little reason to be pessimistic, Look up so as not to stumble and accept the challenge of the times in accordance with the tradition of our great nation, While in school you have had placed in your hands thenecessarytoolsto solve many of the problems that will confront your generation, Use these tools wisely and suc- cess will be inevitable, May I extend my heartiest congratulations to you upon successfully completing thismile- stone of your lives and wish you the very best of everything in the future,
