Blue Mountain Joint School System The opening of school for the 1954-55 term found Orwigsburg Borough participating in a joint school system. This jointure was effected the previousjuly after many months of discus- sion and planning, Being a member of a jointure already has resulted in many improvements in our schoolsg it has also presented some new problems. It is hoped, however, that through experience and co-operation on the part of all concerned, a better school system will emerge for the boys and girls of Orwigsburg. The first meeting concerning jointure was held at Cressona on Wednesday, December 16, 1953. Representatives from New Ringgold, East Brunswick Twp. , North Manheim Twp. , Wayne Twp. , Cressona and Orwigsburg were present and heard Mr. Arthur Henninger, County Super- intendent of Schools, discuss the reasons for forming a jointure and the advantages of operating larger units of administration, At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Henninger asked each of the school boards present to approve his plan for jointure, to give him permission to have his staff make a detailed study of the area, and to adopt a resolution that each district take a com- plete population census as soon as possible in 1954. Very little action was taken by any of these boards for the next few fnonths, Finally, early in May, jointure discussions were re-opened at which time representatives from the six districts involved attended a meeting in Mr. Henninger's office in Pottsville. At the meeting some basic changes were outlined that seemed agreeable to all of the districts, and it was decided that a series of meetings should be held so that a complete exchange of information could be obtained. Following this series of meetings and after all of the boards had indicated a willing- ness to enter the jointure, an organization meeting was held on Thursday, July 8, 1954. At this meeting officers were elected for the joint school system and the articles of agreement were signed, thus bringing into existence the Blue Mountain Joint School System. It is the hope of the Orwigsburg Board of Education that by participating in the joint system more educational service will be made available to the boys and girls of Orwigsburg at a cheaper cost to the tax payers than would have otherwise been possible. NUTE OF APPRECIATIUN It is with sincere and grateful thanks that we, the class of 1955, reserve this page as a token of our appreciation to Miss Meta Mattern, our yearbook advisor, During the months we labored over our book in order that it would be a success, she constantly oversaw and helped us in our work, made things easier for us if possible, gave us kind- ly advice and saw to it that our assigned work wasin by the deadline. Without her efforts concern, drive, and all-around interest, it would doubtlessly not have been possible for us to have a yearbook of the high quality, N!!
