Although their comfortable homes were almost devoid of color and although their religion forbade the use of color on their persons. they attempted to put a note into their otherwise dull surround- ings by using all sorts ol' 4lQVlCOS-ll0C'01'Eltlllg' in gaudy reds, greens. and yellow all the articles which were useda everyday i11 the home. People are awakening to the fact that i11 spite of its simplicity, or perhaps folk-art is truly a great heritage and one, well deserving of all the praise and recognition we can give it. As a practical art, 0110 with which the people lived day by day, it meant mneh to its ere- ators and, holds something for us if we will only look for it. For, ol' such sturdy stock was composed Olll' great nation, in which all peoples, great and small alike, can express themselves to the fullest extent of their abilities. l4l

Erhiratinn We, the class of 1953, are indeed' proud to dedicate this issue olf the H1 Crier to Mrs. Anna S. Erh. Mrs. lflrb teaches second grade in our elenientary building and plans to retire at the end of this school terni. She was horn on Septeniber 11, l8S4, graduated from Orwigshurg lligh School, in 1900, and from 'West Chester State Norinal School in HJO2. She has taught a total of 26 years, 2233 years of which were spent in Orwigsburg. She has three children, each of whoni was engaged in the teaching' profession for some tinie. Mfrs. Erb has served Orwigsburg school well. She has been one of its outstanding teachers for inany years. Her kind, but lirin ways with children will linger in our ineinories for inany years to eoine.
