The two main social events of the year were the hayride held in November and the formal dance held in conjunction with the Y-Teens in May. Athletic activities ranked high with boys as they had an organized basketball team which played inter- scholastically with eight other teams. S. only three short years, but already he has built his football team into one of the most respected outfits in the entire area. He has proved that he knows how this game should be played, and he has also gained respect for the way he handles the boys who play the game for him. Few coaches are as popular or know as much about the game as our youthful mentor. William Shunkwiler, varsity line coach, is another who should be complimented on the fine job he did this year. He developed his linemen into a smooth working group that knew what was expected of them, and carried out that assignment efficiently. Our boys displayed talent which has been lacking on the basketball scene at O. H. S. for several years. In their first encounter of the year with Millersburg, they set a new team scoring record for our school. During the course of the season they broke or tied the old school record a total of four times. While com- piling their ten and eight record, the Riders showed the fine sportsmanship and fair play which is charac- teristic of the Orrville teams since Mr. jack Graham took over the coaching. wif , 4 Ma , , f Qt-:Ajax :Q Mr t'.: -21 V ,V 2 2? 2 f gf, 'w wf '1- 'fl DON AULT LARRY FISCUS DICK HUNTER LYLE SCHROCK 79 6aAleet6all femme Orrville, 71, Mansfield Madison 70 This game, the season's opener, proved to be the closest game of the year.
