In an 6 ORRVILLE--DEMOPOLIS Time ran out on a battered and bruised Orrville eleven when the final whistle caught them on their opponents' 2 yard line, first down and goal to go. The contest ended Orrville O Demopolis O. It was a hard fought, uphill and downhill battle as Demopolis presented a sturdy, hard-charging line and Orrville displayed a courageous defense during the first half. Most of this part of the game was played in Orr- ville's territory. In the second half Winton Wise's boys made one threat after another un- til the whistle ended the game. Capt. Glova Bridges was the most outstanding player with his hard tack- ling and pass defense. Joe Knight and Ralph Walker were outstanding in the line. Demopolis gained 110 yards rushing, completed 2 passes for 52 yards and made lO first downs. The fans saw two evenly matched teams that night. ORRVILLE--CAMDEN Coach Wise's Torrents reached into the fire and pulled out a l9-7 vic- tory over Connie McKelvie's Camden Tigers Sept. 24 after trailing 7-6 at the halftime. Orrville took a 6-O lead early in the first quarter on a pass from Bridges to Kelly. The try for the point failed. Camden scored in the second quarter on a 60-yard drive and made the ex- tra point. The halftime score: Camden 7, Orrville 6. The break came early in the third quarter Punt and Oliver scooped up the ball and ran Torrents' 12th point. Knight's conversion was good. Bridges again broke the ice and Camden's back when he threw another pass to Kelly for a touchdown. Late in the last quarter, Kelly intercepted a Camden ariel and raced 80 when E. P. Massey blocked a the remaining yards for the yards. This score was called back on a penalty. Outstanding for Orrville were Edwards, Walker, and Davis. ' ea

ORRVILLE -- LINDEN Orrvil1e's Blue Torrents blocked punts, recovered fumbles, passed, and ran to an overwhelming 35-O victory over Linden on the Torrents' ,home field October 1st.' Orrville totaled 17 first downs to Linden's 8 to rack up their five touchdowns, and Pat Knight converted the five extra points without a bob- ble to round off the 35 points scored. In the punting department, Orrvi1le's Pat Kelly booted the ball three times, his kicks going for 55 yards, M7 yards, and the last was kicked out of bounds on the Linden 9 yard line. The Blue Torrents scored in the first quarter on a 27 yard run by Brid- ges, twice in the second quarter once after a Linden punt was blocked on the Linden 30-yard line, and again after a 35 Yard pass from Bridges to Oliver placed the ball on the Linden 20. Oliver ran it over for the score. Orrvi11e's fourth touchdown was set up when a Linden punt was blocked on their 22 yard line. The fifth came when Pat Knight covered a Linden fumble on their M3 yard line. Childres, Oliver, and Patterson carried the ball to the 5 and Bridges bucked it over for the final score. ORRVILLE -- MCKENZIE The Torrents captured their third game of the '48 season when they ham- mered out a 28-O win over McKenzie. Halfback Billy Childres shot through left-tackle on the second play of the game and raced M8 yards for a touchdown. Orrville scored four touch- downs and Pat Knight kicked all four points after touchdowns to run his string up to nine in a row. Billy Childres, Feg Patterson, and Sollie Oliver divided the running honors after McKenzie had failed to gain after receiving the kickoff with Childres racking up the second score on an 8-yard slant off guard, Fumbles kept Orrville from threatening further in the first half. ORRVILLE-- PERRY COUNTY Orrville and Perry County played to a terrific 6-6 tie in Marion on October 15 as two evenly matched teams played an extremely hard but cl.ean game trying to overcome the deadlock. Orrville kicked off to Perry County and they were forced to punt. The punt bounced off Ke11y's shoulder pads, and Perry County recovered. Two plays later Perry County scored. It was the third period when hard running by Billy Childres and Sollie Oliver worked the ball to the Perry County 25 where the drive slowed down. Perry County took over but fumbled a few plays later when Oliver tackled the runner. Glova Bridges recovered and Billy Childres, aided by good blocking by Pete Pegues and Joe Knight out through right tackle for the score. The try for the point was no good. Orrville racked up 13 first downs to Perry County's 6 but always found the goal line defense too strong to score.
