iigx segggg Christine, Marion,and Margaret were elected cheerleaders--a coveted honor. Margaret was chosen by the senior class to be Miss Homecoming. She was an attractive feature of the parade as she appeared on the float with her King, David Weedon and eleven attendants. She was presented between hal- ves of the football game that evening and received a large bouquet. This was espgcially an honor since it was the first time homecoming had been o serve . Through the years the boys of our class have been active in athletics. We shall be watching, Diary, to see what comes of it. I should not be sur- prised to find some of them taking their places in the world of sports. Next time I write, Diary, I'll be a graduate of Orrville High School. and Mdforg May 23, l9h9 Dear Diary, Just think! Tomorrow we get our diplomas. It seems like a long, long time since we were freshmen. Mrs. McQueen put twenty-two names on her roll-- Margaret Reynolds, Christine Suttles, Carolyn West, Hazel Boggs, Joan Jew- ell Catherine Parker, Lucile Crawford, Marie Parrott, Mary Joy Mansfield Marie Deffke, Betty Shadix James Pegues, Neal Miller, Ralph Walker, Kent Lauderback Nick Lindsay Clova Bridges, E. P. Massey, Pat Knight, John Bennett, Jimmie Gibbs, and Eugene Oliver. Janet Copeland came in dur- ing the second semester. We were ambitious even then. Hazel Boggs and Marie Deffke entered the Her- bert Stallworth oratorical contest. Although neither of them won a prize, we thought they were good. Margaret was our candidate for queen of the Hallowe'en Carnival. And, believe it or not, Diary, we had cheerleaders in our class that year--Pee Wees, that is. Joan and Betty were off to an early start. When we came back to school in the fall, Mrs. Dunaway was our home room teacher. Our class had grown. Sarah Hicks came to us from Catherine, Don- na Israel from Montgomery, and Marion Massey, Tommie and Jack Shoults from Summerfield. The -3 second semester brought us Dolores Stone from X Suttle and Desmond Bridges, who had been with - Uncle Sam's Navy. There were also some losses. Marie Deffke moved to Selma, John Bennett to Demopolis, and Jimmie Gibbs joined the Army. During our sophomore year the Beta Club selec- ted five of our class members--Margaret Rey- nolds, Eugene Oliver, Catherine Parker, James Pegues, and Betty Shadix. Margaret Reynolds was elected cheerleader. Christine Suttles and Ralph Walker were chosen as candidates for S? Q Queen and King of the Ha11owe'en Carnival. We they made a very attractive couple. Our class was really beginning to make its mark. Marga- ret Reynolds and Christine Suttles represented us in the beauty section of the Orr-Bit, and Margaret was selected from among the group of candidates to be Miss C. H. S. This boosted our morale. Z ? had never had a King before, and we thought And now, Diary, our senior year, our big year. Most of us think we know a great deal now. Of course, the teachers have a disagreeable habit of find- ing fault with some of our conclusions. Carolyn West, Joan Jewell, David Weedon, and Betty Jane Cottingham embarked upon the sea of matrimony. All of-them came back to us, however except Carolyn. Home ties claimed her. But we were happy to have Jean Ellen Jewell from the last year's senior one class. She attended summer school and classified as a senior. I0

Are you still teaching English here at Orrville High School?H uYes, I am, Joan. I've been here nearly three years now. Homecoming is always a great occasion with us now. I'm so glad you could get here! Did Sam come with you?H UYes, but I have lost him in the crowd. We're having a grand time, seeing everyone we used to know. This is certainly different from that first homecoming. That was the year we were seniors! Do you remember how nice Margaret looked as queen? I wonder where she is now. Do you ever hear from her?N WOh yes! She will be here later on. She's working at Craig Field-- and, would you believe it? She was elected Miss Craig Field last spring. Margaret is still as popular as ever.U NI haven't heard any news in so long! Tell me everything you know. Where is everybody? Am I the only one of our class to get back?H NI should say not! There's Nick Lindsay now. Orrville was lucky to get so successful an agriculture teacher. No girl has quite made the grade with him yet. Eugene can't come though. I got a wire from him from South America this morning. He had gotten the invitation, and wired to let us know that he is on an important job that has to be finished by the end of this month. He is making a name for himself as a civil engineer.H nHow nice! And I saw Glova last Saturday as I came through New Or- leans. You should have seen the Alabama--L. S. U. game! Glova handles his boys nicely. I stayed to speak to Glove and to congratulate him when the game was over. He told me that Marion was there, writing a play by play description for C. B. S., but I never could find her in the crowd. Marion was always good at things like that.N nJoan I got a letter from Betty last week. New Orleans reminded me of it. Betty is private secretary for a rich business man in New York and travels a good bit. She said when she was in New Orleans a few weeks ago she had dinner with Dolores at Antoine's. Dolores is co-owner of it, and Betty said that was the best food she had ever tasted. French, of course! She is quite famous now. Our class is doing fine, I think. Did you see those blue and white pennants in the school building?H nYes I wondered where you got them. They are not ex- 9 actly like the ones we seniors , are they? NNo, indeed! The Since Deryl has bought there has been so much exclusive apartment house in 5 if c Q ordered to sell in 'le-9 when we were Selma Printing Company made these. 9 it out and is managing it himself, A,W Y improvement in their work! And you I r X Dum I'm invited to spend a weekend ,tl 1, with them during the Christmas holidays!U HHow Nice! Catherine, I do miss seeing our old friends! But I had a letter from Lu- cile Crawford the other day. She is a model at Macy's in New York. She specializes in suits and sport clothes. Lucile was always one of the best dressed girls in school. She told me that she went to a baseball game the remember Betty Jane Lowry, I know. She is living in a very Atlanta, Georgia. Her husband is manager of Sears there now. I2
