Our freshman year was a new and challenging experience. We were as all freshmen are: shy, unoiganized, and reserved. But then as we evolved through the high school Sooial Strata we staited to unwind and realized our true potentialities. As sophomores we had an over bundance-o spirit and pride in our school and our junior varsity teams. During our junior year we transgressed from under to upper classmen. We began the 70 rules policy, which has continued through our senior year. And now, as seniors, we are about to end our 4 years of high school experience. We look back on them with a certain amount of pride (and a little humor). GOOD LUCK to the classes of 71, 72, and 73 and may your following high school years be ones of HAPPINESS and SUCCESS. coronet studio kathy gibson This year's outstanding senior girl is Kathy Gibson. This is the type of longhair music that Jack appreciates. How'bout you, Roland? foreign exchange student Roland and his American family, Mr. and Mrs. West, Georgeanne, Pamela, Jack, and Maile. My name is Roland Ulmer and I am from a University city called ERLANGEN in the North of Bavaria. I attend there a high school for new languages and have when I came back still to make the 13th school year. My father, Dr. E. Ulmer is a higher government official in the internal revenue service and had to study law for that. My mother, Dr. H. Ulmer is a doctor, but at the time she is not practicing her profession. Besides me, there are two more brothers and one sister, who are all going to the same high school and are all younger. About 200 Germans are this year here in USA and after our trip from Frankfurt to New York, where we stayed for a few days, I came to California, and the first thought, when I stepped out of the plane, it is really hot here ! But after the first two months I was used to it and enjoyed my stay more from day to day. Thanks to my US Family, the Wests, who really tried to make me feel home in everything and treated me from the first moment on like one of them. Thanks to the students of OROVILLE HIGH, who helped where they could and especially the AFS chapter, who make my trip partially possible, and all of you who helped me to get around here. This record was quite a disappointment due to the expectations everyone had for a top notch ballclub. This year’s team was a combination of last year’s J. The 1970 Junior Varsity Football Squad did not enjoy the success of last year's Junior Varsity League Champs. This was attributed to the lack of size and depth inthe line and backfield. There was, however, some excitement in the play of (picture to right) Geri Hudler (26), Mike Powell (10), Anthony Martello (64), and John Howarth (66). These players led their team into battle against teams which were much bigger in size and number. The experience gained this year will be extremely valuable in next year's varsity contests. 125 Above Right Hard working halfback Dan Boone (22) forces his way through the Placer Defense into the endzone as freshman quarterback Bobby Hottenger (17) looks on. This year's Freshman team has been the strongest team defensively in five years. They had a good balance and fine potential. The team captains were Dave Gramps and Terry Warren. Making 109 points offensively and giving up only 36 points defensively the team won four games: Yuba City Brown, Las Plumas, Marysville, and Paradise, losing games to Yuba City Gold, Bidwell Jr. High, and Chico Jr. High. powder puff football Karen scrambles for extra yardage. Joni follows blockers for first down. Luke, Curt, Pete, Joe, and Jack really put some good laughs in the junior cheerleading section. Karen tries to break 12 to 12 tie. It never happened though, so the game ended in a deadlock. It just goes to show you, the best doesn't always win. Now if that isn't spirit, I don't know what is. This was Coach Kovats first year as head coach, and although he had a lack of experience, he made up for it with his overwhelming enthusiasm and new coaching ideas. His optimistic leadership, however, was the main reason for the Varsity and J. V. championships. Only having three seniors on the team made it very difficult for Coach Clark to get organized at the beginning of the year. The three seniors were Eric Tandy, Lanny Stenson, and John Moseley. Next year the team will have back Scot Heaslip, Don Lee Wright, Gordon Yates, David Johnston, Curt Mettling, Stan McQuown, Rick Jones, and Jeff Jamison. Next year should be a great one for basketball. Oroville will be going into a new league and should have a great year with last year's J. V. championship team and this year's runner-up. 132 game basketball is a man’s 133 John Moseley rebounds for the mighty Tiger team. Coach Hottel has tried many new things in trying to coax his club from the cellar, A big reason for the bad season was the sore arm of pitching ace Larry Thompson.
