MR. DAMBACHER Principal Somewhere I’ve read the phrase, “The Challenge of the 60’s.” Living and working successfully in the 1960’s is probably as great a challenge to you young people as was faced by any of your ancestors in their own day. As it was to your ancestors then, the challenge to us today is to be as well prepared as we can be to face life and make a success of it. Success in our day depends largely on our educational preparation. Therefore, make sure that you take advantage of your educational opportunities so that you can successfully meet the challenge of the 60’s. MR. GROSSE Vice-Principal Mr. Grosse came to Oroville High in 1949 as a teacher. He later attained the position of Vice-Principal and was christened “Smiley.” In 1961 he was awarded the “O.H.S. Purple Heart Award” for injuries suffered while attempting to protect the property rights of neighbors during the students’ lunch hour. In his years at Oroville High two dreams have come true: a student parking lot and a “buffer zone” surrounding the high school campus to eliminate loitering and littering.

These five people have the responsibility of the operation of our school. Among their duties are the employment and discharge of personnel, the adoption of extbooks, development of school curriculum, the entering into of contracts, and the building of schools. Three members are serving their second year on the board: Mrs. Murphy, a housewife; Mr. Iloberg, manager at Midvalley Savings and Loan Company; and Mr. O’Brien, owner and operator of O’Brien Realty. Local optometrist, Dr. Bethel, is in his eleventh year of service. Mr. Miner, is the newest addition to the board and is a local farmer. It is evident that the Board devotes much time and energy to its job. Superintendent
