I HK HOARD Ok 1RUS1EES—(L to R) Ernest Gibson, Dr. Robert Bethel, Ray Leonard and Jack Andrews. The individualist is Mr. Jack Pank. The Board of Trustees has the vested responsibility for the operation of your school. Among the duties specifically charged to it by law are development of the school curriculum, adoption of textbooks, employment and discharge of personnel, regulations governing the operation of the school, including discipline, promotion and conduct; the entering into of contracts, the purchase of real property, and the building of schools. The importance of the work of the Board of Trustees is evident. Its success can only be measured in growth and development of the students within the school, the place that they take in adult life, and the contribution which they in turn make to the welfare of all people. It is, therefore, not a job to be entered into lightly, but one that calls for a great deal of time, effort, and devotion to a cause. Orovillc is fortunate to have five men, each an individual thinker in his own right, who can and do join in welding together for a strong organization. The students, alumni, non-certificated staff, faculty and administration join in this expression of appreciation to the Board of Trustees.

We, the members of the 1901 Nugget Staff, take the liberty of dedicating this yearbook to one, Mr. James Warren Prouty, who we believe truly deserves the honor. For eight years he has taken on the burdening responsibilities of being the advisor for Orovillc High’s Nuggets. We believe him to be more than a patient instructor, but also a man, who through his authoritative manners and thoughtfulness for others, demands the respect of his students, and seeks to make them think for themselves. These arc only a few reasons why wc are dedicating this book to you, Mr.

svpEiO jkmxT W ho Is riu'y? Not a very grammatical beginning for a school administrator s last remarks to a graduating class, is it? But, read it again. Who is They? 1 his was the year when the world conflict of ideologies of communism vs. democracy was brought sharplx into loms. This was the year when four dreams of men became of realistic concern: peace, decent standards ol living, self-government, and doing awa with second class citizens. 1 his was the year that recognition was given to the need for intelligently trained legislators: for an educated, enlightened public, for the best informed citizens. But where was leadership to come from, who was to define the national purpose, who was to summon us from moral lassitude? Every criticism was in terms f collective society—in terms of “They”. And yet who is They but the individual? We each and severally are the basis of our com-Imunity. II we are Christians in action, take an active interest in church, school, and community affairs, are active in government and vote intelligently, then we indeed contribute to a better world, to the attainment I of dreams. And this is done in steady, unspectacular, day-to-day living by each of us. And who is They? Why, “They” is You! May you live a full life. jjuju o yn- d££-
