One could proudly say that there has been a high degree of rapport between the administration, the faculty, and the stu- dents. The person most responsible for this friendly environment is Mr. james C. Nisbet. This is the first annual since 1929 that has not included the word Principal beside his picture. Mr. Nisbet's life and the history of this high school are inseparable. He graduated from O.U.H.S. in 1911 when the enrollment included approximately one hundred students, re- turned in 1916 as a teacher and in 1930 became principal. There are many, many people on this troubled sphere who are proud that Mr. Nisbet in- fluenced their lives through attendance at this Happy high school. r Q -,I g, -iv? 1 , '53 1 :Ma an. 1552? f , , 'wifi H 'Q ii 4. , f Nam, -Q 41,-,+-.,--V3,cQ, 0 2. Coach Johnny johnson's boys lacked experience, since only two of last year's lettermen returned. The grid- ders played eight season games, six league and two practice. johnson started the season with Fred Jones and Jim Townsend alternating as fullback, Dean Andoe as left halfback, and Lefty Coleman and Roger Kitrick alternating at right halfback spot. Ken Williamson took up the quarterback position with Dale Turner and David Washington on the end spots. Ben Meyer and Jesse Hipes were guards, Dalan Bartley and Carl Overstreet, tackles, and Bob Post at center. With this lineup the team had a good defensive but could not bring out a strong enough offensive. After the San Juan game a few changes were made in the lineup in an effort to create a better offensive. Dalan Bartley was moved to fullback. Jones and Damon alternated at left halfback. Kitrick played right halfback steady after Lefty Coleman, his alter- nate, received a knee injury and was unable to finish the season. Don Hansen played guard position. Andoe was switched to quarter to give Williamson some help. jones and David McGarr alternated at left end with Turner taking that position at times also. Dan Sackett was put in as tackle after Ben Meyer injured his hand and was unable to play. Turner some at that spot. Scores Oroville ........ ...... 1 3 Shasta ...... TEXT The Oroville Tigers had quite a basketball season this year, starting with many fans expecting them to be far from first place in the league by the end of their twelve-game schedule. The Oroville lads improved tremendously. however. after a few exhibition games, and came out Sierra Foothill League Champ- ions for the third consecutive year with eleven league victories and only one loss. The Tigers didnt do too well in the Acker Tournament, win- ning only two of their six games during the three-night affair. Oroville took fifth place. with Berkeley winning the tournament championship, Mcfllymonds second, Chico third, Red Bluff fourth. Shasta sixth and San jose last. David XY'ashington, our 6'3 junior, won one of the ten Out- standing performance trophies. Dave ranked fifth in scoring and did a fine rebounding job to earn the honor. By winning the championship this year the Tigers put another league trophy in the patio trophy case permanently. The trophy must be won by a school three consecutive years before it is turned over to them, and Oroville has done just that. Stan Huston and David Wfashington brought additional honors to the Oroville team by being nominated All-Sierra Foothill League. Q if R X 2- . ft gk S T fi row: D. Whshington. T. Nafziger. Championship for their fourth straight season this year in a three-way tie with the Yuba City l-Ionklets and the Rose- ville Kittens, all three teams having eight wins and four losses in league play. The V.'s didn't show too much promise at the beginning of the season, but came up later to give all the other possible league champs a run for their money. The lads started their league season with three losses in four starts to lower the expectations of many fans. But the eager young squad rallied to come into the championship limelight by the end of the season. Dean Newby, Bob Dugger, Dan Duncan, john Hitchcock, and Barry Rockwell paved the way in many hard tussels during the season. This quintet was the main force which Coach Ferretti used to keep the Lil, Tigers in the running. fx 'E LYNDA MOSELEY NANCY LONG uggcl x 'fi Y MARGARET CAMPBELL Staff LUIS SIBLIQY ISILLIE FRIEXK H C X fesaugegf!
