Ma Jlaafuaau ecfacalaon We the graduating class of 1949 wish to dedicate this volume to Hugh Harrison our coach counselor and friend We desire to ex press appreciatlon not only for the enviable athletic records he has given us but for the spirit of competition and fair play he has helped to instill in our players When Mr Harrison came to OUHS in 1940 our athletic program was in the dold rums Oroville teams held no threat for their competitors the players themselves felt un able to beat other schools the size of ours Through hard work and inspirational leader ship Mr Harrison has establlshed the PE and athletic departments as smooth running organizations Under Mr Harrisons direction Oroville High has produced several of the outstanding teams of Northern California Since 1940 Oro v1lle Varsity has ended its gridiron season three time undefeated Three big six Championships and two ties have been chalk ed up Oroville track teams have swept the field in 46 47 and 48 On the hardwood Coach Harrison s boys have been overwhelm ingly successful achxevmg Big Six top honors 1n 42 44 and 45 These records are espec ially spectactular as competltlon and game know how flourlshed to ever increasing heights in Northern California basketball The foregoing demonstrates Coach Har r1son s technical ability but perhaps the most important personal esteem and affection was highlighted during the troublesome war years when hundreds of his former athletes corresponded from all parts of the world These letters he treasured highly and faith fully answered each one boosting moral with news of the home town and bits of his personal philosophy . The class of 49 dedicates this Nugget to your continued success Mr. Harrison and the furtherance of your formula which you practice, as well as preach -- Hard Work, Clean Living, and Fair Play.
