His administrative abilities, sincere friendliness, and his enthusiasm towards school affairs have made him an asset to our school. We, the Senior Class of 1955, proudly dedicate this Orion to Mr. Robert F. Parker in grateful recognition of his outstanding leadership. 4 p . UN-If PQIFFQW F QR! NN 5 is gv . His admirable capabilities as an administrator and his winning personality place him among the ranks of those to be held in highest esteem. Sincerity and seriousness are always present in Mr. Lytle's work. These qualities are best exemplified by the fact that during these years he has faithfully executed his many duties as superinten- dent of schools and member of the Board of Education. Constantly he is striving for the betterment of Orono. This, we believe, has been the primary concern underlying all of his efforts. Then too, Mr. Lytle's name will forever remain significant to all Orono graduates, for to them it will recall pleasant mem- ories of high school days. They will remember this man with the generally sober facial expression beaming with smiles of pride at Orono's showing at a football or basketball game, class plays, or any other school event. Truly we may say that Mr. Lytle serves the Orono district schools wisely and well-his discipline and understanding of school matters being accepted and re- spected by all. ...I The hardest working group of all. Inset: Mrs. ROBBERT TALBERT. an ' ' Mr. Parker came to Orono os our principal in July, 1953. Since then we have seen him in action working in the interest of both students and school. His success in this can be based on his friendly, personal relationship with the students and faculty of Orono High School. ln addition to this, Mr. Parker' is an important connecting link with ourmcommunity, for he is an active participant in his church and the local Lions Club. He stresses public:-relatlonsas one h of the most important features succssstof Ct school. A ' L it W a .A fx- 1 4 --. .1 .: ,. I 3193- .f - ' ' - - . - ' - es, ss Q.,-5, - - . 1 X , . . Our class officers were Jimmy Swanson, president, Bette Lehto, secretary-treasurer, and Jon Balme, vice-president. ln our sophomore year our class sponsored the Heart Hop. Bette Lehto and Russell Norum were our Jack and Jill of Hearts. Guiding us through the year were Nancy Olander, our sophomore president, and Jimmy Swanson, our vice-president. Todd Fruen served as class treasurer and Mary Johnson was our class secretary. Our Homecoming attendant was Doris Ann Sletten. As iuniors we started the year with big intentions by winning a trophy for Homecoming display. Also at this time we chose Marilynne Johnson as our attendant to the Homecoming Queen. Following this, we went at our magazine sale very enthusiastically and reached our goal of 51500. Junior Miss was our class play. Again this year we sponsored the Heart Hop with Suzanne Wasgatt and Jimmy Swanson being crowned Jack and Jill of Hearts. We also sponsored the Fall Frolic and many Flash dances. Marilynne Johnson carried a big load by being our junior class president. The other officers-Todd Fruen, vice-president, Patsy Budd, treasurer, and Freddie Poisson, secretary -were also very capable. The year ended successfully by our sponsoring the Junior-Senior Prom at the Lemington Hotel. As seniors we found ourselves being guests at the Junior-Senior Prom as well as being sponsors for the Home- coming activities. Doris Ann Sletten was Homecoming Queen and Lois Thomas and Marilynne Johnson were her senior attendants. As a memorial to future Homecoming Queens, we gave a rhinestone crown. Our senior class officers were Freddie Poisson, president, Doug Anderson, vice-president, Margaret Houck, treasurer, and Mary Johnson, sec- retary. To spend the wealth accumulated by our class, we went on an extravagant class trip to Chicago for two days. 16 0 0 0 gg ST ' W Q 1 ,f l Af g AUl.l AHONEN DELORES ANN ANDERSON DOUGLAS ANDERSON llwlyll lloedell lloougll Will and intellect are one and the some thing. Awed at the prospect of finally reaching high school, we entered a beautiful, new building to start the first of six wonderful years. For our .class officers we chose Ted Oare for president, Betty Ann Courtney as vice president, and Margaret Nelson as secretary. In the eighth grade we welcomed a group of stu- dents from Oak Noll. Nancy Nelson and Ted Oare were put up as .lock and Jill of Hearts. At basketball games we all had a wonderful time. Steve Hamilton was our president and Karen Chelberg was our vice president. Debbie Moilanen acted as our secretary. When we became freshmen, we actually felt as though we were a part of the school. We sponsored our first dance, a Soc Hop , and we had fun making a Homecoming display. Debbie Moilanen and Chuck Krieser represented us as Jack and Jill of Hearts. Daisy Mae and Lil' Abner at the Sadie Hawkins Dance were Steve Hamilton and Nancy Nelson. Keith Hansen lead us as our president, Richard Rendall was our vice presi- dent, Debbie Moilanen was again our secretary and Evelyn Pritchett was our treasurer. This year we sponsored the semi-formal April in Paris dance which was naturally on a Paris theme. We will sponsor the Commencement Ball in honor of the seniors on the theme of Nautical Nocturne. Debbie Moilanen was chairman of our Homecoming display which was set up at Lyle's in Long Lake. Linda Griggs was our Homecoming attendant. Gary Lytle was our president, Jerry Rockvam was our vice president, Nancy Nelson was treasurer, and Karen Slater was secretary. As sophomores we are really looking forward to the Prom next year. if ? 4 ' TOP ROW, left fo righi: E. Cronk, D. Byedy, VV. Anderson. C. Cox. R. Brozey C. Borluug J. Bensow. SECOND ROW: J. Our class officers were Richard Raffety, president, Carol Barlau, vice-president, Karen Larson, treasurer, Corinne McGinnis, secretary. ln the eighth grade we didn't do anything outstanding except maybe some honest, hard school work. The school year went fast and we all succeeded in graduating into the fresh- man class. The president of the eighth grade class was Gene Neddermeyerf VlCe-president was Richard Raffety, and the sec- retary-treasurer was Sharon Dunn. During our freshman year our class officers were Richard Raffely, presldenli Wayne Anderson, vice-president, Chuclc Schrnlt, secretary-treasurer. We were proud of Bergit Carlson and JDS Boersma for being chosen King and Queen of the Heart Hop . Jo Ann Olson was our freshman representative in the annual style show sponsored by Dayton's, Both the boys and the girls were disappointed at losing the intramural bas- ketball games. The girls were especially unhappy because they weren't able to keep the annual freshman win. We were proud to head the school with the most pupils on the A honor roll. Next year our class will be somewhat smaller, but we are laoltlrtg forward to much leadership even as sophomores and to having the privileges and responsibilities ol the Senior High. We spent the year getting acquainted with the routine of a busy high school. Dennis Leck was our president and Donald Peterson was our secretary- treasurer. During our eighth year we became the proud holders of the Homecoming display trophy. The winning display, carrying the name of Char the Chiefs , consisted of a revolving spit on which was tied a Waconla Chief. Nearby was a picnic table surrounded by Orono football players. Our class officers were: Jean Jost, president, Buddy Nadeau, vice-president, Donald Peterson, sec- retary, Lynn Mcrtin,,treasurer. Next year we will become freshmen and leaders of the Junior High. 37 66 .lvx I Tffwj TOP ROW, left to righf: R. Evans, B. Cox, B, Day. P. Beerg L. Anderson. E. Forde SECOND ROW: S, Clover. C.
