season with a fourth-period outburst in the Ellsworth game, winning 34 to 13. Eleven seniors were awarded letters: Don Hashey, Phil Goodie, Leonard Kenny, Willis Reed, Donald Babin, Harold Pepper, Dick Sullivan, Doug Powers, Lloyd Ingraham, Francis Gilmore and Dick Gibbs. Roger Hooper, Dick Bell, Bob Deering, Lin Hashey, Art Parlin, Bernie Corneil, Jack Pelletier, and Merle Lounsbury were the underclass lettermen who will be back next year. The 1951 team while without the famous Hashey-Sullivan combination, will have speed in the backfield and some weight in the line. LINCOLN 33-0 Orono opened its season with a bang, playing host to Mattanawcook Academy from Lincoln. While the Riots got only three more first downs than Lincoln they broke away several times for long runs starting with Don Hashey s 75 yard iunback of the opening kickoff Hashey scored twice more in the first quarter and Francis Gilmore added another touchdown in the sec ond period Orono made its final points when Bob Deering passed to Lin Hashey in the end zone Dick Bell Roger Hooper and Phil Goodie played a major part in holding the Lincs scoreless by good work in the line DOVER 33 0 The Riot ground attack really got rolling in this game as Orono gained 390 yaids on the ground to 30 for the Ponies After leading 14 0 at the half Orono scored three touchdowns in the third period and the reserxes played the lest of the game Dick Sullivan lr av- ' Q3 I J Sf sf? BAR HARBOR 7 6 Another doormat became a strong door as the Sea slders rose up to give Orono its second consecutlve scare Bar Harbor started the game w1th a drive down to Oronos 35 yard line but after an exchange of punts tried a pass from mldfield The passer Was snowed under and Lin Hashey grabbed the ball and ran 50 yards for a touchdown Sullivan rushed the point Later Bar Harbor scored a touchdown but the kick for the point was low Nelther team could score after that The Rlots sorely missed Don Hashey who played only part of the time due to an injury and Dick Gibbs and Don Whlte both out because of 1nJur1es a so BUCKSPORT 7 6 The Riots avenged their only loss of last year and won back the small school P V C champlonshlp The scorlng was Slmllaf to that ln the two PFCVIOUS games At the end of the first half Art Parlm stopped a 67 D half ended with the score 0 to 0 Then Don Hashey as usual saved the game by returning the second half kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown He added the point whlch once again proxed to be the deciding one as Bucksport scored later but couldn t convert Dick Sullivan didnt play until the last half due to one of the mtermmable 1nJur1es that plagued the squad Hal Pepper starred 1n the llne at center playing in Bucks port s backfield most of the time OLD TOWN 0 14 The Indians were Just too powerful for Orono as they ended the Riots 8 game win streak It was Old Town s first triumph over Orono ln five years and the Indians were only the fifth team 1n five seasons to score more than one touchdown against Orono The difference between the two teams was Old Towns d1vers1fied running and passing attack Old Town scored in the first period by covering 43 yards in three passes and then stopped a 58 yard R10t drive in the fourth quarter on their 15 and carrled the ball back up the field for their second touchdown Orono acquired 12 first downs to Old Town s 14 but was al ways stalled outslde scoring terr1to1y Donald Babln played his best game of the year at center FIWIJOII flel' E Fzfty lite je 6 ' C, ' . 1 - Q , 1 5 5 1 D . .
