GIWLJUH NEI' 14.L'e1fZe41fa0 JIS By MARIAN CURTIS Dear Kxds Its ten mlnutes before two a m The town IS Sllent except for a tram rumbllng ID the dlstance I llnaglne everyones asleep but me Im dead tlred but before I go to sleep there s somethmg I have to get off my m1nd Just awhlle ago I had the most wonderful experlence of my hfetlme I was crowned Queen of Hearts at the Orono Hlgh Valentme Ball I am happy beyond words to have rece1ved thls honor but I reahze that there were a number of glrls who were d1s appolnted tomght SIX of these glrls were chosen as the other candldates others are the rest of the glrls ln the Junlor and senxor classes at O H S I m Wfltlllg thls letter for these glrls I want them to know Just how xt feels to be chosen by the entlre student body as Queen of Hearts It all started last Wednesday when the prel1m1nar1es for the votmg of the Queen were held A number of frlends had sa1d beforehand that they thought I would be one of the candldates I told them they were nuts The Junlor and senlor classes were full of glrls who were prettler and more popular than I I even went as far as makxng a bet of fifty cents wxth a frlend that I wouldnt be a candldate I lost the bet That was when the congratulatlng Thrrfy four began Everyone would come up to me smlle and tell me how glad they were It dld my heart good to know that people really cared For the next two days I was ln wonderful sp1r1ts except for a horrxble restless ness I couldnt study sleep or s1t stlll for any length of tlme On Thursday aftel noon the final votmg was held Margaret Pelletlel and MRXIUQ Bemls two cute llttle seventh g1ade1s were elected as the tlambeal ers and Paul Clancy was chosen to be the crownbealer The name of the Queen was lept secret and wasnt announced untll Just be fole the p1 ocesslonal on Satul day mght I mentlon th1S because I w nt you all to know that I d1dn tknow be forehand But ex en lf I dldn t know I was glV6H a hard tlme Klds would come up to me and tell me I was go 1ng to be Queen I knew I dldn t have a ghost of a chance so I dldll t lxsten to them and went my meuy way I'1nally tonlght came When I tlnnk of all that happened th1s eve Umg I remember celtaln thlngs clear ly whlle all the 19 t seems hazy I remember hovs my h ut slapped a beat as we ente1ed the superlntend ents ofhce and saw M1 Sherman IVIISS B1own1ng and Ducky standmg H1916 On the table was a box full of beautlful white carnatlons Miss Brownlng plcked up one looked at It then turned to Mr Sherman and sald Well I guess youll haxe to an nounce lt now I O I . - 7 ! 9 ' ' o 1 , ' . . . .
