L1llLOl1l 13 Z A lax ge crowd of spectatols was on hand to find out the poss1b1l1t1es of thc glcen Olono elexcn Not exen Smoe bellex ed that The Riots had a chance to beat the lughlx touted Lmcs The team hoxx ex er felt dlfferently and xx as out to pxoxe that once again a light but SCIRDDQ bunch of Cum ons vxould bung a xictollous season to Orono High R,t,CLlN1llg' thc opcmng kick off the Riots marched 67 yards to the fnst of thelr dozen touchdowns of the season Bled Wallace scoring on a naked lex c1 se The croxxd watch ed in amazement as 010110 added anothei ma1ke1 in the second frame after Don Hashey Bob Wallace and Page teamed to bung the ball down lnto scoxing te111to1y Don Hashex bulled through flom the three to make lt 1.5 0 Late in the final p611Od the Llncs pulled off a safety to keep from be- ing blanked Dover 14 6 The R1OtS had a llttle too much football know how for the bxg Pony team sco1 1ng tVN1C9 early in the game and then holding on to the finish The Scar lets on both occaslons mox ed the ball downfield on long drlx es and then let Freddy Wallace scoot the remalnmg dxstances for the counters Don Hashey and Bob Wallace added an extra point ap1ece to form a perfect fourtecn and counteract Dox er s thlrd perlod tally John Bapst 0 34 Orono made a game of It for the first two pei 1OdS but couldn t match reserx es in the second half The Crusaders one of the best large schoolboy clubs in the state maintamed a fresh team during the entlre game thus wearlng down the Riot eleven Bob Wallace completed several good passes but the team could not get 1n scoring posltlon Bapst however enlarged a 6 0 halftime score to 34 at the end of the even1ng s contest Bar Harbor 19 6 Orono made lts first bld for the P V C Small School Champlonshlp by defeating the Seaslders After a see saw first perxod in which both clubs presented mlnor threats the Riots finally shook Weymouth loose on a thlrty yard romp for the first score of the game Hashey punched through fol the extra polnt and the score stood 7 6 at halftime The Orange and Black retallated in the same perlod with a 50 yard pass play but failed to add the tylng point The Riots came to life in the thlrd period and scored twice The first came as a result of a Harborlte fumble at mldfield Fred Wallace scored three plays later on his favorite reverse Later in the third period the Crimsons moved again with Don Hashey dellvermg six pomts bv an off tackle smash Old Town Oh' Oh' A heavily favored lndlan aggregation was held to a scoreless t1e ln one of the most evenly contested games ever played by an Orono elexen Al though Old Town had a heavier team well stocked with capable reserves, it was matched by an aggresslve Riot team that fought for every inch of ground. Both clubs played good ball, with the breaks deciding against both A he can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots. . teams Orono threatened early ln the game when Don Hashey carried to the Green eleven An mtercepted pass then gave the Indlans a chance to start a touchdown drlve of their own Thxs qulckly dlsmtegrated when Bob Wallace snared a stray pass on the Rlot thlrty The play then see- sawed at midfield for the remamder of the half Late ln the thlrd canto a Brave passlng attack brought the ball to the Rlot 14 but falled to move any closer as the Crlmson tlghtened thelr defenses After an exchange of punts the College towners began to move downfield ln the dylng moments of the game At thls pomt Orono gambled and lost Old Town lnterceptlng a pass behlnd their own goal l1ne and runnlng It out to the three Flve plays later the game was over The Riots playmg over thelr heads gamed a slxght edge ln St3.tlStlCS department racklng up more first downs and gathering a llttle more yardage whlle dolng so Weymouth Hutchms N Hashey and R Wallace played thelr best game of the year although every man carrled out hls duties to the letter Dexter 20 7 The Rlots had to come from behlnd to take the surprlslng Fay Tlgers Orono suffered a letdown after the hard fought battle wlth Old Town the prevlous week Glvmg up almost twlce the length of the field ln penaltles the Scarlets found themselves on the short end of a 7 6 halftime score Freddy Wallace contrlbuted SIX pomts early ln the first perlod scampermg 90 yards for the tally Don Hashey then supphed the needed spark to put Orono back ln the lead scorlng twlce 1n the thlrd perlod Both counters came as results of vlclous slashes from 1ns1de the ten The second after a brxlhant fifty slx yard Jaunt by Mr Hashey Bob Wallace bulled through for the extra polnts making a deClSlVe 13 point margm for the Maroon and Grey forces -L Achxevement is the only standard by which the world measures you. , . - . .
