DEBATING First row Dana Devoe Jean Dolloff Stacy Stevens John Porter Second row Margaret Dow Stephen Brush Jean Littlefield Herbert Doten DEBATING The Debating Society at Oiono High School may not have fostered the best team ever to represent the school but it certainly has been the most successful By wlnnlng both P V C crowns and the State title as well we feel that oui group has been a distinct year the team won a total of seventeen debates and managed to defeat every other school we encountered at least once during the season Some of the schools we met were Bangor Stearns John Bapst Watcrvllle Leavitt Instltute South Portland Lewiston and Old Town Stacy Stevens and Stephen Brush received many best speakei ratings although all four of the varslty debaters were capable speakers and tactlclans B1 ush received one important rating over Miss Blackington of Waterville while defeating her school in the State Finals at Bates College Stevens took great pleasure in being selected over Brountas and Drisko of Bangor in the Bates League elimination All of these rivals were among the best in the State Other members of the society also received ample experience to build a strong foundation for next year s team A lar ge share of the credit belongs to Lawrence Jenness who as a former Riot u as a holy terror on hls own teams We feel that his former assoclation with our school IS the probable reason for his coaching suc cess with the present Riots An echo is the only thing that can cheat a woman out of the last word I -1 lhi' 1' B l ,J L, xii 1 -1 ' e ' 1 , , , ' - : 7 I 9 ' , .
