When the football season rolled around, the nucleus of the team was made up of Juniors. On the basketball team we were also very well repres ented by five able boys. The cheerleading squad was another activity in which the Junior Class played a major part. Juniors are to be found in most of the remaining organizations in school. On April 8, some of our classmates presented the annual Junior Speak- ing Exhibition. From this event, several were chosen to attend the state speaking contests. This year the Juniors forged ahead of the Seniors and brought home the Winter Carnival Trophy. May saw the arrival of the Juniors with a highly successful Junior Prom. The first ten Commandments are the hardest to keep. SOPHGNIORE CLASS The very worldly-wise and experienced Sophomore Class began an eventful year with the initiation of the Freshmen on October 15. By the evening, however, our ambitious classmates relented a little and staged a very successful dance to prove to the poor unappreciated souls that we really liked them. The arrival of our class rings threw Room 16 into a mad frenzy of anticipation. We managed to barely exist until that momentous activity period. Then we could say we were really a major cog in the 0. H. S. wheel. Throwing a wary eye over the many activities, and after dodging Don Hashey's football, Wayland's basketball, Sullivan's baseball, Bennie's clarinet, and Cota's thrashing arms as she cheers for Orono, we came to the fond conclusion that the Sophs are right in there pitching Oops-I forgot the majority of those hlgh pitched W3llS you often hear come from our girls ln the glee club In th spring of 48 we elected our capable and hardworking class of ficers They are President, Robert Hamilton, Vice President Douglas Powers Secretary Treasurer, Richard Sullivan To the Student Council we sent Muriel Bennett and Dana Devoe P95 5 SOPHOMORES First row Patricia Goodine Ruth Dow Muriel Bennett Janet Cota Patricia King Cunningham June Bartlett Phyllis Bailey Mary Lou Sinclair Second row Francis Gilmore Cecil Waddell Willis Reed Judith LaPomte Maurmc Sullivan Dawn Evans Carol King Jean Littlefield Betsy Parker Iena Fitz Mar lon Curtis Harva Young Margaret Dow Llo,,d 11 xaham Philip Goode Ed mund Gilmore Third low Bruce Thaxter Robert Baker Louis Dall Leonard Kenny Stephen Brush Donald Babin John Sutton Dana Devoe Wayland Shands Richard Gibbs Hersc hel Haverlock Reginald Bowden Clarence Bunill Ha old Pepper Fred Lam oreau Richard Hobson There is hope for a man who can look in a mu-ror and laugh at what he sees e ' ' ' - . Jimmy is caught and is forced to dress in the clothes he has stolen to avoid being caught, but too late. To make certain there will be enough men at their prom, the girls decide to hold J immy for ransom until his friends come to the prom. Everything would have worked out fine but for the arrival of the chief of police, who is an expert on kidnaping. Only by the aid of Droopy, the colored janitor, does Jimmy finally escape, after promising to come back for the prom. Beware! The big shot you hear of today may be Bred tomorrow. X!
