Steve Wayne—Debating in P.A.D. MR. BRYAN—Civics. U.S. History. P.A.D.. World History. Social Studies Since 1964 was a presidential election year, the Problems of American Democracy class conducted a mock election at OHS. Candidates and their campaign managers were chosen from the PAD class. Posters were put up in the halls and campaign circulars dis- tributed to all students, stating each party’s stand on current political issues. On the day before the election, speeches were given by the candidates at an assembly. The results were: Johnson and Humphrey (Steve Spencer and Ernest Emmerson) over Goldwater and Miller (Steve Kipp and John Blanchard) by a sub- stantial margin. We took up Chau- cer’s Canterbury Tales, Huckleberry Finn, Moby Dick, and works of English authors. English 12-A, looking busy as usual . . . A remedial reading course was offered this year to build reading speed and comprehension. Here Mrs. White helps a freshman calculate her speed. 7
