Office Practice Business education classes are becoming more and more interesting to us, from both the per- sonal and practical viewpoint, because of the increasing demands of the business world today. Many business education courses are offered to both boys and girls at OHS. Certain standards and goals arc established which must be reached before one can receive full credit for the course. Although some subjects are harder than others, one feels a sense of accomplishment when these skills are attained upon graduation. Linda Shaw and “Gen Forty Typing I students work for speed and accuracy. Agriculture Jerry Lawson. Dale Simino. Mark Webster, and “Prof” Leslie. The cast included J. Leslie, C. Allen, D. Emmerson, B. Barton, and N. Morley. The second semester was spent on the one-act play contest; an annual event which is state wide. The White Dove, a tragedy based in a bullfight arena, was chosen as the contest entry. We also tried to recreate a community interest in the theater by adding a three-act play to our schedule. With many problems unanswered, the organization has enjoyed the year’s projects and is looking forward to next year. These projects consisted of making and distri- buting favors to the Rest Homes, the Retarded Children School in Newport, and to shut-ins. Fund raising activities were the selling of poinsettias, wreaths, fudge, a paper drive, and a Valentine Dance. We also held our annual Christmas Ball in December and The Mothers and Daughters Banquet in May, both were very successful. In April several delegates attended the State Convention at Mt. The Second Anniversary of the Future Business Leaders of America has brought the year to a success- ful close. A new spirit was created through the interest of its senior members. To observe National Education Week, we were privileged to have an excellent guided tour through the Orleans Manufacturing Company office. The Sixth Annual Business Get-together was held at Colebrook, New Hampshire. Our contestants won four places out of eight—five schools participated. Our contestants were: Typing I Division—H. Hemenway, first; J. Leslie, second; T. LcBlanc, fourth; and in the Typing II Division—M. Boucher, first by typing fifteen minutes with one error. We were pleased that our con- testant for Miss Secretary of 1962, Jane Moquin, won this title, and Hale Hemenway, was runner-up for Mr. Businessman. Our department is proud of these stu- dents. Keep up the record! Projects this year were: giving holiday treats to shut-ins; corresponding with FBLA chapters in Alaska and Hawaii; and enjoying many suppers with guests invited. FBLA is more than an organization for business students. Through our varied activities, we had an opportunity and were encouraged to become better business leaders of tomorrow. Class History Getting ready for Junior Prom. Twelve years ago “Jim,” Myra, Joan, Joe, Linda “Bev,” “Gert,” Dwight, Betty, “Teddy,” and “Sherrie” started the first grade at Orleans Graded School. Dur- ing the next six years we were joined by “Bob,” Linda, and “Mike.” Our junior high school days started in 1957. Claudia, Maxine, and Emile joined us then. Mrs. Leslie and Mr. Brooks guided us through these two years which were filled with many wonderful events. Trips to Montpelier, Burlington, and the White Mountains were enjoyed by the entire group. Our boys won the basketball tourna- ment by defeating St. Johnsbury. A girls team was formed this year, and we played two games with Derby. We also were undefeated. Our eighth grade graduation exercises and banquet were the climax to these years. The halls of OHS welcomed us in 1959. By now our class had grown to 51. Freshman Reception night proved the fact that we were mere inexperienced students. Mr. Barton and Mr. Whitaker showing us the way as our freshman year came to a close with an unforgettable picnic at the Barton State Beach. Our sophomore year started with revenge on the freshman class. This year we had an entirely new idea Girls' State and Boys’ State Delegates: Judy Kennison. Jim Alexander. Jim Choiniere. Senior Basketball players: “Teddy,” Joan, Richard, Ruby, Linda, “Jim, “Bev,” “Sherrie.” for this reception. We gave them an opportunity to entertain us with their talents. The evening was very much enjoyed by all. Mrs. White and Mr. Barton were our sponsors this year. Everyone was looking forward to our junior year. With the help of Mrs. Houghaboom and Mr. Barton we put on the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance and the Junior Prom. The hall was beautifully decorated with “Fantasy of the Sea” as our theme. At the close of the year everyone participated in an outdoor chicken barbecue. Then coVncs the high point of our twelve years—our senior year. This year we are busier than ever. Mrs. England’s and Mr. Stacy's guidance has helped us meet many of the goals we have set for ourselves. Our year- book has taken a great deal of time, but we know it will bring back many memories. With the ordering of name cards, announcements, pictures being taken and our studies, this year has passed very quickly. We are looking forward to graduation and becoming Orleans High Alumni. Many memories of the good times we have shared at OHS will always be remembered by the class of ’63. by Linda Shaw, Betty, Myra Chicken Barbecue—self service.
