Principal W. eiSacjt To the Class of 1956: During the past four years, you have enjoyed a great many good times together and you have formed friendships which will last throughout your lives. It is my sincere hope that these good times you have had and this work you have done has made you a better citizen of this great country of ours. As you go through life, may my best wishes and the best wishes of Orleans High School go with you. Dustin White According to authorities, the two aims of life are happiness and achievement. (aSS iiilot 1 In September, I9I1I, a group of little angelic figures marched solemnly into the first grade. We learned the alphabet, reading, and counting, under the supervision of Mrs. Blanchard. This was the year that Ronnie Fax was settled firmly in his seat for disorderly conduct. During our second school year, we delved into the realms of addition, subtraction and multiplication, under Mrs. Smith. When we reached the third grade, we were the oldest on the ground floor; therefore, we had to set an example. This year. Miss Clara Rogers was cur teacher. Under the direction of Miss Thelma Stearns in the fourth grade, we took on our new subjects. One of these was history, which acquainted us with the cavemen. Mrs. Kills, our fifth grade teacher, introduced vis to science. Punch- ball was the national sport in these early days and everyone had but one goal; be chosen first for the punch ball team. As we entered the sixth grade, we realized that we were the oldest in the building and felt very worldly. Miss Lois Rogers was our teacher and this year, we went to Lyndonville as a reward for being safety patrols. Miss Marion Taylor introduced us to junior high. This year we put on a play in a contest with the eighth and ninth grades. We didn't win, but we had alot of fun. Our last year of elementary schooling, under the direction of Mrs. Hazel Stearns, netted us the play contest trophy. We eagerly awaited Sub- Fresh- men Day, to get a glimpse of high school life. Under the guidance of Mr. Roger Barton, we entered the ivy-covered halls officially. This first year of high, many new kids entered our class and lasting friendships were made. Early in September, we were initiated. Our attire for the day, consisted of bransacks and hip boots. Our sophomore year, we had the fun of initiating the freshmen. We start- ed our treasury on its long and tedious climb. Early in the spring we ordered our class rings. As juniors, we had the thrill of sponsoring the Junior Prcm. The theme was Undersea . Remember those class meetings? This year, Carroll Lawes, Dick Boulanger, and Nancy Carpenter, were cho6en as representatives to Boy' State and Girls State. This, our senior year, has been the most memorable of all; our struggle to raise money for the usually decreasing class treasury, and all the excitement of getting graduated. As we think of our four years at Orleans High School, we will remember maty things, and most of all, our class mates, friends, and teachers. Senior ( (aAA We, the Senior Class, of Orleans High, in the said town of Orleans, in the county of Orleans, state of Vermont, being of nearly sound mind and memory and mindful of the uncertainties of our doom, do make and constitute this our last will and testament, hereby making null and void all former legal documents.
