Patricia Hunt Marion Chadburn dedication if :beobca fion l We, the class of 1955 wish to dedicate this yearbook to our class sponsor, Mr. Herman Lambert, who has guided us through three years of our high school. We will always remember your keen sense of humor and willingness to co-operate with all our school activities. PrincipaI's Message To the Members of the Graduating Class : You, as members of the Class of l955, are to be congratulated on your accomplishments. Today, more than ever before, an education is necessary for life and your high school graduation is a very important stepping stone on your way to an education. During the past four years you have enjoyed many good times to- gether, and you have formed friendships which will last through-out your lives. Those years have been good years, and in all probablity, you will never be able to lead as happy, carefree a life. Next year you will either be continuing your schooling or be going to work. Please remember that your will to do and your ability to work are important. Many have talents, but only a few are willing to work hard enough to develop them. Your high school is confident that you will always bring credit to it and it wishes you the best of luck in so doing. Dustin White K S ponsor's Message EDUCATION has been thought of as something which a person gets or misses in his early years and which he generally forgets in his mature th f w basic years. This need -not be so. Vastly more important than e e kill u will retain from your regular course of studies, is the chance s s yo that a spark of curiosity has flashed in your brain. This may well have ld l d to been inspired by anidle book taken casually from a shelf and cou ea your education for a full, happy life. This is somethingl think you all richly deserve. Sincerely, H. A. Lambert SBlIi0fS Ml 5.1 First Row-Everett Coffey, Joanne Langdeau, Marian Chadburn, Pat Hunt, Marvin Cubit, Sandra Stephenson. And you'll be in our hearts. It seems so sad that we must part And leave you dear old school The tears we shed will be for you And fall to form a pool. But we must feel that this is not the end, But only the beginning. For we will keep on climbing higher, And forever we'll be winning. We shall miss our teachers, parents, friends and schoolmates too. But we shall be a' cheering, For the school we love--it's you. Now as we leave you, Orleans High To enter in a world thats new. And all those happy days gone by, You know we'll think of you. Sue Dennaise enior Cfcwzi Mdfor In September, 1943, when our hearts were young and gay, we entered the first grade. Our parents, with high hopes, and us, young and innocent, accomplished such wonders as reading, writing our names, and counting to 100, under the guidance of Miss Drown. In the second grade, with the help of Miss Smith, we entered the ever- plaguing world of arithmetic and spelling. Enough said. The third grade stands out in our minds, as the year when Miss Massey used sticky tape to counteract whispering. It was also in this year that Naa- man Green provided us with a half hours entertainment by having to stand in front of the class and make faces. The next year, being the fourth grade, we journeyed upstairs, and under the direction of Miss Stearns, took up two new subjects, history and geog- raphy. It was while in the fourth grade, we took one of those imaginary trips across the country. The height of our ambition in the fifth grade was to be able to hit a home run in punch ball. Here, Miss Marshall introduced us, for the first time, to science. When we entered the sixth grade under Miss Rogers, we considered ourselves high and mighty. The most memorable incident of the year was our Patrol Field Day at Essex Junction, with all the hot dogs and ice cream we could eat. The next year we went over to the high school building. Here, in the seventh grade, under the supervision of Miss Stratton, we put on our first class play. We didn't win the contest, but it was a great success to us. In the eight grade, under Mrs. Renfrew, we made a trip to Montpelier to visit legislature. The most impressing part of the trip to us then, was riding up and down the elevators in the new State Office Building. The next year we entered high school as freshmen, with Mr. Barton as our sponsor. The most memorable part of the year, of course, was fresh- man initiation, when Naaman Green and Phyliss Malshuk had to measure the baseball diamond with a hot dog. As sophomores, we had the great priviledge of initiating the freshmen. This was the year that Mr. Lambert came in as our class sponsor and also the year that we ordered our class rings. Our junior year was a real success, with Mr. Lambert as our sponsor again. The highlight of the year was our Junior Prom. Our theme was Evening In Paris . There were a thousand shining stars suspended from the ceiling and a sidewalk Cafe at the upper end of the hall, plus many other attractive decorations. This June, Jack Healey, Gleason Guyette, and Sue Dennaise were chosen as representatives to Boy's State and Girl's State. Our senior year was probably the most outstanding of all. By Naam an Green During our freshman year, our class was well represented as we had seven on the varsity. Much experience was gained this year by watching and getting hints from the older players. The team, as a whole, had a pretty successful season, as they were co-champions of the Northeastern Vermont League, along with Newport. Our sophomore year, many of us made the first nine, as many were lost through graduation. This year, Montague took over first base, Gallup se- cond, Rundgren third, and Green and Guyette took over the pitching and catching chores. This year was not too good as we were in the stages of rebuilding, but all in all, we had some pretty good games. The '54 season was better than the previous year, as we had gained much experience and were a big threat in the league. Another member was added from our class this year as Healey took over the outfield position left by Roderick Phillips. The record of the club this year was 6 wins and 2 loses. This year, we are hoping for a successful season, with mostly everyone back from last year's club. Under the coaching of Min Lambert a freshman team was formed where many of us gained a lot of experience. Our sophomore year, with Mr. Lambert taking over the coaching of the varsity, our class placed six on the first ten. They were: Naaman Green, Larry Gallup, Dwane Austin, Wayne Freehart, Paul Montague, and Jack Healey. After a successful season of 22 wins and and 4 loses we received a playoff to go to the state tournament, but was defeated by Stowe 49-48. We ended the season by winning the Northeastern Conference Tournament and placing Green, Barton and Hemenway on the All-Tour- nament Team. The '53-'54 season started with a bright outlook after losing only Hemenway through graduation. Larry Gallup Naaman Green, Paul Mont- ague, Jack Healey and Dwane Austin represented our class on the team this year. W'e had a record of 18 wins and 4 losses and received a couble piay- off for the State Tournament. In the first game we beat People's Acadarny 54-26 but was defeated by Bradford in the second game 49-40 . In our last year we started the season with the first five all seniors. We ended the season with a 15-4 record and again received a double play- off. We edged Northfield in the first game 44-43, but was beaten by New- port in the second game. We were also beaten by Derby in the Northeast- ern Tournament. We placed Green and Gallup on the All-Tournament Team. We had a hard schedule to play including teams like Richford, with 18 wins, Morrisville, who lost to Burlington and Lyndon Institute, winners of the Northern Class B league. The best game of the year was against L.I. with 15 seconds left in the game, Orleans led 61-60. Nancy Shonyo's overhead shot won the bat- tle for L.I. 62-61. Although Hussey, Mattson and Michaud are graduating this year, the outlook for the coming season is very bright as we have good material in Rachel Roberts, Rosalie White, Maguerite Hardy, Gloria Duquette, Joyce Jones and Eleanor Blake. With Dina Hardy, Eenie Smith, and Mary Dur- ivage left on the varsity , the season should be very successful.
