She wasn't really a Jones, but she had been adopted by hhe kind, elderly Mr. and Mrs. Jones when she was very small. Shy Babe was fond of them but did not actually enjoy being babied so much. She considered herself old enough to go out where- ever and whenever she wished to, but this was actually the first time she had managed to take a walk this spring! Babe started down the avenue leading toward the business section of the town, feeling very important and grown up. ' How the people stared! was it from admiration, or was something wrong with her appear nee?
